Liam Payne has been co-parenting with ex-partner Cheryl Cole during the pandemic and he’s opening up about the difficulties he’s faced in order to see his son Bear.
The 27-year-old singer and Cheryl, 37, split back in July 2018.
Liam went on Instagram Live this week and talked about how he visited his son that day.
“I went and saw Bear today we had a little hangout which was nice as I hadn’t seen him in a couple of weeks,” Liamtold his fans. “It’s hard with the COVID thing as I have to make sure I’m negative before I go over and see him so it’s having to wait that couple of days before you can test so… He’s only up the street and it’s dead complicated but he’s gotten so big, huge.”
The UK is currently on a lockdown due to COVID-19 and households are banned from mixing during this time, though separated parents are allowed to have contact with each other for the sake of the kids.
The former One Direction bandmates have bonded over fatherhood, according to “Midnight” singer Liam.
He told Access Hollywood in an at-home interview via Zoom how fatherhood is going with his 3-year-old son Bear, whom he shares with ex Cheryl (and whom he hasn’t seen in weeks).
Louis Tomlinson, meanwhile, is a parent to 4-year-old Freddie along with his ex Briana Jungwirth.
Liam said that the duo talks about their respective parenting experiences “quite a lot.”
Liam also discussed whether or not his son is already a fan of his music, and if he’d like to see Bear pursue a career in the spotlight one day.
Liam Payne is explaining why he hasn’t seen his son Bear in quite a few weeks.
The 26-year-old musician revealed that he has been kept apart from the 3-year-old due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During a live stream, Liam updated fans about how Bear is doing.
“Bear is really good. He is learning a lot more about FaceTime at the moment. It is difficult not to see him. That has been the hardest part for me. I’m missing him,” Liam explained (via J-14).
He added that he took one of Bear‘s toys to keep him close, saying, “I have a mini-Batman which I took off my son!”
Liam welcomed Bear back in March of 2017 and shares him with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
The “Polaroid” singer and the X Factor judge, who announced their split back in July, share 21-month-old Bear.
Up until now, the parents have mostly posted only photos of Bear‘s hands and feet.
While we’re still not sure what his face looks like, Cheryl recently took to her Instagram Stories to show off some of her favorite photos from the year.
In one pic, Bear lays on his stomach in what looks like a yoga class for babies. In another, he stands in a diaper with a big pair of headphones and a little ponytail.
In the final one, he chases after a soccer ball in a field, revealing that he’s walking now.
We can’t believe how big he’s gotten already and how cute his little curls are!
This might just be the most adorable thing we’ve ever heard – Liam Payne‘s son Bear dances to his music!
Speaking with People recently, the 24-year-old musician talked about how his one-year-old son recognizes and dances around to his music.
Liam shared that Bear was one of the first people to listen to his collab with J Balvin, “Familiar”.
“I played him demo tapes of ‘Familiar’ ages ago before it came out. Then when it came out, he was like, ‘I remember this one!’” Liam recalled.
“He goes rigid and like shakes with excitement and wants to get as close to the speaker as possible.”
He adds, “For me, I love making great music for my fans. But when you make something that your son loves, it’s the best thing ever. Whenever he cries or anything, I’m like, ‘famili, famili’ and he’s like, ‘Hey, it’s this one again!’ He loves it.”
“He’s massive now! Where’s my baby gone? He’s like this big. He’s one. Everyone comes over and is like, ‘Your child’s massive!’ he told PopBuzz in an interview.
“I don’t know what we feed him. I don’t know what she’s [Cheryl's] doing,” he joked.
“When kids are bigger, they struggle to get their core balance. He’s so tall, he’s like lanky. He’s blowing around the place. He gets really frustrated,” he added.
