“Empowered Belle” Featurette – Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast shared a new clip from the upcoming film and its pretty hilarious!
In the scene, the Beast (Dan Stevens) wants Belle (Emma Watson) to join him for dinner but it looks like she has some other plans!
While Belle is in her room plotting her escape, the Beast’s servants try to help him practice asking Belle to join him in a more inviting manner.
Mrs. Potts, Lumire, Cogsworth, and Plumette encourage the Beast to be more friendly and even flash a smile, but it doesn’t seem like he really understands.
The 26-year-old actress opened up to the mag about the queer sensibility of the Disney musical. Here is what she and her co-star had to share with the mag:
Emma on the film’s queer sensibility: “I think it was really important actually for Dan and I to develop and understand why each of our characters feel like they don’t fit in. I certainly felt watching the original that I wanted to know more about why Belle feels that she’s different and why she wants to be different and why she’s naturally different.”
Dan on why the lead characters are so popular with gay men: “It’s about that sense of persecution. Belle is seen as a bit of a freak within her community, this girl who reads and invents things and is a bit too clever for the local Establishment. And Beast is obviously persecuted because of his appearance.”
