Youtube star Bethany Mota‘s new memoir, Make Your Mind Up (watch the announcement here), delves into both her ups and her downs over the years, and in a new interview, Bethany gets real about some of the struggles she has been through.
“It was when Myspace was around,” the 21-year-old recalled to Entertainment Tonight in a Facebook Live interview, revealing that when she was young, bullies made a Myspace page identical to hers but “all of the photos had mean captions.”
She was only 12 at the time.
“I was never like, ‘Oh maybe I need to lose weight, maybe I need to go on a diet,’” she said, “Those thoughts had never crossed my mind until that point so that’s kind of when I lost that innocence.”
Reliving all of that pain to write the memoir was difficult for her: “I started feeling those feelings again and I started just remembering exactly what that felt like and it wasn’t a good time, it was a dark time and it was a little scary.”
Fortunately, she overcame her demons — in terms of both bullies and pressure to look a certain way to be accepted — and now she is focused on being healthy and strong.
Bethany Mota is currently touring the entire country promoting her first ever book, “Make Your Mind Up” and by watching her Instagram Stories, she’s having a blast.
“It was important to me to record the audiobook because I felt like this gave me an opportunity to be even more vulnerable with my viewers,” Bethany shares.
She adds, “Writing this book in general has caused me to be very personal and I feel like actually recording it, gives me the opportunity to tell my viewers the story in an even more personal way.”

Not only is the social star going around the country promoting her brand new book, “Make Your Mind Up”, but she’s also celebrating eight years on YouTube!
“8 years ago I posted my first video,” Bethany recalled earlier this week. “So much has happened that I never expected. That decision literally changed my life and so have you all.”
She added a massive thank you later on to her fans: “Thank you guys for all of your love. you seriously mean soooo much to me!!!”

Bethany Mota couldn’t stop her giggles while arriving at the 2017 College Television Awards last night in Los Angeles.
The social star gave fans a little sneak peek inside her new book, “Make Your Mind Up”, on social media this week and it’s incredibly inspiring.
“Who we are is a direct response to the choices we make. If I’m not challenging myself and taking risks with my career and life goals, I feel like I’m missing out on the person I could be. Whether you succeed or fail, shooting for the stars will show you what you’re capable of,” Bethany captioned on Instagram.

“Happy birthday to my girly half AND twin @gabi!” Niki wrote on Instagram with a sweet note. “We’ve been on such an adventure together the past few years and as much as we do have our fights, you know I wouldn’t wanna do this with anyone else.”

The social star and new Girls’ Life cover girl is always trying to motivate her fans to do something that scares them.
“Most of my fears are just keeping me from being my true self. So I ask myself, ‘What do you really want? What do you want to achieve? What fears are keeping you from that and how can you conquer them?’” she explains in her cover story.
Bethany adds, “here are little things that scare us every day, and really keep us from doing what we want to do. What I’ve found is that when I face one fear, I get into the habit of doing things that scare me…and I get a little closer to the person I want to be.”
Very true!
So, what other advice does she have for others who are afraid to express themselves?
“You have to go with what you enjoy, regardless of what others around you think you should be doing,” Bethany says. “I know people who have gotten into YouTube and then stopped because they have friends who thought it was weird.”
“Don’t be afraid to be different. It’s safer to do what everyone else is doing, but it pays off way more to be yourself.”
