Brandon Routh Reveals His Thoughts On Ray & Nora's 'Legends of Tomorrow' Exit

Brandon Routh Reveals His Thoughts On Ray & Nora's 'Legends of Tomorrow' Exit

Brandon Routh is opening up about his and wife Courtney Ford‘s characters exits from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

It was announced last August that the on and off screen couple would be leaving the show as series regulars, and their last episode just aired last night (March 17).

Brandon and Courtney‘s characters Ray and Nora got married and they left the crew to go on their own adventures together as a couple.

“On one level, I’m happy [that Ray and Nora got married]. It’s a future I did see for them so I don’t think it’s wrong that they’re married,” he told TV Guide. “But I think the journey to having it happen shouldn’t have been forced. The exit is also very quick and forced, and so I have challenges with that on a personal level.”

“Overall, it’s a mature episode. We’re dealing with heavy, heavy subject matter, and it’s a very emotional episode. I think Legends does that from time to time, but this is even more standout in that respect for me,” Brandon added about their final episode.

Brandon Routh Reveals How He Was Asked To Be Superman In 'Crisis On Infinite Earths'

Brandon Routh is opening up about getting the chance to play Superman once again in the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover.

The Legends of Tomorrow actor reprised his Clark Kent/Superman role from Superman Returns, and he dished about returning to the character while appearing at Build Series by Yahoo on Tuesday (December 10) in New York City.

“We found out about the landscape of the season before we started shooting. Then, about two weeks later or something, I got a call from Marc Guggenheim, who’s kind of the puppet master of the crossover extravaganza. He said, ‘Hey, you know, I know this is happening with Legends and I’m over here doing the crossover, and we want you to be part of it as Ray Palmer and The Atom, but would you consider… I have this idea, we’re doing Crisis On Infinite Earths. Would you be interested in putting on a different suit also?’” Brandon said.

“And I thought, ‘Oh I know where you’re going with this.’ I said, ‘Look, I’m really honored that you even ask me. Is everybody really okay with this? Is this something if I say yes, is this really going to happen?’” he added. “I said I just need to settle with this and think about his for a little bit and talk it over with Courtney [Ford] and realize that you know, it was a good decision and that no matter how much he appeared on screen, no matter what he did, just being able to come back and reprise this role that would help complete the journey of Superman for me.”

“My first gut instinct was like ‘Yeah, yeah!’ but I had to consider and understand where the story was going to be like and the landscape for that,” Brandon continued. “There’s only so much you ever really have control of and I knew that no matter, again, even if it was just Superman coming in saying, ‘Hi, nice to see ya,’ and walking out, that that still would have been okay for me.”

“For me, it wasn’t just presence on screen, it was the whole thing, the costume fitting… the whole part of it was healing in many ways for me.”

Brandon Routh Wraps Filming on 'Legends of Tomorrow'

Brandon Routh is saying goodbye to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

The 40-year-old actor took to his Instagram to say an emotional farewell to the show after wrapping his last episode.

“My final day of filming with my #LegendsFamily. I love you all & appreciate the 5 seasons we’ve spent together. It hasn’t always been easy, but I think that’s what makes it harder to leave — getting through the growing pains of the first few seasons has bonded us. 👊🏻 And made the last three seasons a blast!” Brandon wrote.

He added, “I’ve never been at a job this long, so this is new for me. 😢 I think I will miss you all and the fun we’ve had making this silly show on the #Waverider—as much as I’ll miss bringing #RayPalmer to life. Love & blessings on a great finish to the season. 🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️”

Season 5 of Legends of Tomorrow is set to premiere in January.
