Did you know that the upcoming Cats movie is directed by the same guy who directed the Les Miserables movies?
Taylor Swift actually auditioned to play the role of Eponine in the previous movie and when casting started for the Cats movie, she was offered her role without even doing an audition!
“I had actually done screen tests for Les Miz and had met (Hooper) through that process, like 2012,” Taylor said in a new interview with Variety. “I didn’t get it, but it was such an amazing experience just doing the screen test. And I was obviously like, ‘I’m not going to get this,’ because the other girl was amazing and was on the West End — Samantha Barks; she’s incredible and she fully killed the role and was amazing. … I just had a good time doing the screen tests.”
Taylor didn’t have to audition this time around though. She said, “When I was approached this time, it was a straight-up offer.”
We’re going to have to wait a little bit to hear the full version of Taylor Swift‘s new song “Beautiful Ghosts,” but we just got a sneak peek in a new featurette for the movie Cats!
The video shows Taylor in the recording process and she opens up about the new track, written specifically for the film.
“Beautiful Ghosts” will be performed by Francesca Hayward in the movie and Taylor has recorded her own version for the film’s end credits.
“When I first read the screenplay, the first thing I said was, ‘We have to have a song for Victoria,’” composer Andrew Lloyd Webber said. “Beautiful Ghosts [is now ] an incredibly important and central part of the whole film.”
“What I couldn’t believe was the extraordinary beauty of these lyrics that Taylor had written,” director Tom Hooper said. “It was as if someone had come into the film I was in the middle of making and … had reflected back to me a profound understanding of what we are trying to do with the movie. It was utterly thrilling.”
Taylor added, “You can’t write a modern lyric for Cats. So if you can’t get T.S. Eliot, get T.S… I’m here for you.”
Taylor Swift will be releasing a brand new song this holiday season for her new movie Cats!
The 29-year-old singer has co-written a song called “Beautiful Ghosts” alongside composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and they will be eligible for Best Original Song at the upcoming Oscars.
Ballet star Francesca Hayward, who plays the white cat Victoria in the movie, will sing the song on screen. Taylor‘s version of the song will play in the end credits.
The character of Victoria was expanded for the screen and Lloyd Webber decided to write a new song for her. Variety reports that Taylor offered to write a lyric for the song and ended up contributing to the music as well. The two songwriters share credit for the tune.
Taylor plays the role of Bombalurina in the upcoming musical film and she’ll sing the song “Macavity the Mystery Cat.”
“I am a cat now and somehow that was everything,” Taylor tweeted with the trailer.
Jennifer belts out the classic song “Memory” in the trailer, which gives us our first look at what the cast will look like as cats. The film reimagines the musical for a new generation with spectacular production design, state-of-the-art technology, and dance styles ranging from ballet to contemporary, hip-hop to jazz, street to tap.
