Woohoo! Chasing Life is coming back for a second season to ABC Family!

The show centers on April (Italia Ricci) through her journey battling leukemia, during a time in her life when the challenges of finding love and success would be enough to keep any girl occupied. But April is determined to fight and refuses to give up her dreams and goals. Along the way, she’ll find new reserves of strength and passion within and discover that facing death may really be the only way to truly live.

“Through the laughter and the tears, our audience has connected with the characters and relationships in ‘Chasing Life’ and we are thrilled to continue telling April’s courageous story,” Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, shared in a statement. “Chasing Life has found a home here.”

The show also stars Haley Ramm, Aisha Dee, Richard Brancatisano, Scott Michael Foster, and Mary Page Keller.

Tonight’s summer finale of Chasing Life was so heartbreaking in every form — and we’re also going to need April to stop her horrifying dreams.

As April got settled into the cancer ward at Mass Gen, she’s given a huge send off from her family, a prep course from not just her own doctor, but George as well, and meets the nurses and some other patients. Later that night, after her first go-around with chemotherapy, Sara stays the night with her and to get her to sleep, reads her a favorite childhood book.

Sara also meets Martine, April’s favorite nurse. We kind of love her more than Leilani, too, April. April wakes to find Dominic watching her sleep again. Dom’s back! Let us rejoice about that before everything else happens.

Italia Ricci has been tugging at our heartstrings all season long in our favorite new show Chasing Life, and tonight that comes to an end with the summer finale.

In case you haven’t caught up (in which case, GET ON THAT!), the 27-year-old actress stars as April, an aspiring journalist at a Boston newspaper who is diagnosed with cancer.

We caught up with Italia to get the scoop on what we can expect tonight, including what she thinks about the brewing love triangle with Leo (Scott Michael Foster) and Dominic (Richard Brancatisano). Check it:

JustJaredJr: We have to start with Leo and April! They didn’t end on the best terms last week. What can we expect with their relationship going into the finale?

Italia Ricci: For the finale, it becomes life and death. They do…I don’t know how to say this without giving too much away. There’s a little bit of closure. They do see each other again and speak, and a decision is made, and then something happens with Leo.

JJJ: Where does Dominic fit into all this, now that he knows April’s secret?

IR: Dominic, as you saw in the preview, he comes back. They figure some things out that put him and April in a very heated conversation.

In “Finding Chemo”, April officially begins her battle and month-long hospital stay with mixed emotions. Her resolve to fight starts to wane as her treatments take a toll. Not sure she can be cooped up in the hospital for much longer, April begins to panic. With her family by her side, April makes a surprising outreach to someone who may be the only person who can help her.

Meanwhile, Dominic (Richard Brancatisano) returns to a much different April then when he left.

In “What to Expect When You’re Expecting Chemo,” With only a few days left before April (Italia Ricci) has to check herself into the hospital for aggressive chemotherapy, April is determined to live as normal a life as ever.

But first, she has to deal with Leo (Scott Michael Foster) drama, Beth (Aisha Dee) falling apart, and trying to live under the hovering eye of Sara (Mary Page Keller), and she quickly learns that nothing will ever be “normal” for her.

Meanwhile, Brenna tries to juggle time with Kieran (Augusto Aguilera) and Greer.
