Were you as shocked as we were about Mon-El’s exit from Supergirl during last night’s season finale?
Chris Wood will not be returning for the upcoming season, either, and the showrunners are opening up about just why it was time to say goodbye to him on the series.
“The plan for Chris was always to have him on the show for two years,” executive producer Robert Rovnerexplained. “We’ve loved telling Mon-El’s story, as well as the story we’ve told for him and Kara. We hope the fans felt that it was a satisfying conclusion.”
EP Jessica Queller added that for now, Kara and Mon-El’s love story has come to an end as well.
“They both have destinies in different times as heroes,” she says. “What they did was the sort-of Casablanca decision of putting what’s most important to them — which is saving the world — first.”
She continued, “It’s a little bittersweet that one destiny is to be a hero in this time and one’s destiny is to run the Legion in another time, but I think they grew a lot from knowing one another. They have respect for one another, and they have a respect for the decisions they respectively made.”
However, it might not be goodbye for forever.
“We love working with Chris, so we’d love to have Mon-El back someday if the story takes us there and if Chris is available,” they added.
Melissa Benoist and her boyfriend Chris Wood make a picture perfect couple while walking the red carpet at the 2018 Tony Awards held at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday (June 10) in New York City.
The 29-year-old actress was a presenter at the show and she brought Chris as her date. It marked their first time on the red carpet together!
Melissa is currently making her Broadway debut in the musical Beautiful. She is starring as Carole King through August 4.
FYI: Melissa is wearing a Dior dress and Dior Fine Jewelry earrings.

Melissa and Chris, who are also an IRL couple, were spotted filming a finale scene for the third season of the hit show alongside their superhero gang including Erica Durance, Amy Jackson and Chyler Leigh.
At one point, Chris checked out Melissa, and when she caught him looking at her, they both shared a laugh!
Supergirl is making it’s return next week and we are so excited!
What we’re even more excited about is the fate of Karamel – the pairing of Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Mon-El (Chris Wood).
EP Jessica Queller spoke to TVLine about what we can expect between the former couple, since Mon-El confessed to his wife, Irma, that he still had feelings for his former love.
“It’s one of those heartbreaking, sort of star-crossed love stories where…I don’t know what to give away, but we are really excited to have the opportunity to dig deeper in their connection and excavate what’s under the surface,” she shared. “We want to make sure that those characters are honest with how they feel without having to keep any barriers.”
She does promise that there is a lot more coming for the couple turned co-workers.
“Mon-El is going to be a big part of the show through the finale, and it’s a heart-wrenching situation,” Jessica adds. “There’s a lot of romance and a lot of drama, and I would definitely tune in to see how that will play out.”
During her appearance, Melissa opened up about learning how to play Supergirl, dancing and acting since she was a kid, performing a Stephen Sondheim medley at Disneyland and playing one of David Koresh’s wives in the new mini-series, Waco.
