In the new episode “Thirteen Candles,” Sydney is turning 13 and sets out to plan a sophisticated birthday party. Her plans remind Max of when he tried to organize his own surprise party for his thirteenth birthday back in the 90s.
JJJ has an exclusive clip from the episode where Max arrives at his own surprise birthday party. Check it out now!
To celebrate this new birthday-themed episode, we spoke to the young stars of the show – Ruth Righi, Ava Kolker, Jackson Dollinger and Christian J. Simon – and asked them about their favorite birthday memories, and what their dream party would be like.
“My dream birthday party would be a traveling birthday where I would get to see a new part of the world with my family and friends,” Ruth told JJJ. “I would spend the time exploring and taking in whichever place I ended up and celebrate with as many desserts as you can think of.”

On tonight’s (April 10) new episode directed by Raven-Symone, Sydney throws a tribute for her favorite teacher Mrs. Harris (Melissa Peterman) in hopes to save her job. Meanwhile, back in the 90s, Max bonds with Mrs. Harris during a trip to an art museum.
“I hope kids and families will realize how much an influential teacher can change the path your life can take and you never know when the inspiration for your future will strike in a class. It’s important to be open to learning and to see what each moment in your education brings,” Ava explained.

Sydney and Olive are going green on Sydney To The Max tonight (March 26)!
On tonight’s new episode, in an effort to save the planet, Sydney and her friends stage a student protest to convince the cafeteria to go green. Back in the ’90s, Max and Leo fight to keep their school from getting rid of the junk food in the vending machines.
“I try to participate in small acts of kindness everyday as well as try to give back to my community when I can. Anything from donating time to a charity you believe in, participating in a women’s march or just doing the dishes for your family makes a real difference,” Ruth shared with us.

The show’s second season has yet to premiere and the network already greenlit another one.
“We’re thrilled to be investing in another season of this endearing comedy and to continue working with our very talented showrunner Mark Reisman,” Disney Channel Vice President of Current Series Kory Lunsford said in a statement.
“Reisman‘s amazing team and this stellar cast continue to deliver stories that are both funny and meaningful for our audience. We can’t wait to see how the loveable Reynolds family and friends will continue to navigate tweendom, parenthood and friendship,” he added.
The young Lion King star wore a cowboy themed look for the red carpet premiere at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday night (June 11).
But JD wasn’t the only one in a themed look - Sydney to the Max‘s Christian J. Simon was also seen wearing a fun Toy Story themed blazer with the iconic title song, “You’ve Got A Friend In Me”, inscribed on the back.
It was just announced that the Disney Channel comedy will return for a second season.
The show is set in the present day with flashbacks to the 1990s and follows outgoing middle schooler Sydney Reynolds (Ruth Righi), who lives with her single dad Max (Ian Reed Kesler), in the house he grew up in, along with her progressive grandmother Judy (Caroline Rhea). As Sydney’s preteen pursuits begin to expand, Max’s flashbacks of his childhood help him gain a better perspective of his daughter’s experiences.
Sydney to the Max also stars Ava Kolker, Christian J Simon, and Jackson Dollinger. New episodes of season one return on June 8th at 8pm ET on Disney Channel and the DisneyNOW app.
