“Woop woop! Congratulations to the whole cast and crew of @SirenTV !! Let’s go season 2 !!!” Eline wrote on Twitter, adding, “Also biggest biggest thank you to everyone who watched #siren or is watching wherever you are in the world! Thank you!! You guys are mermazing! (Sorry couldn’t resist).”
Alex Roe and Eline Powell star in a show about mermaids on Freeform, but the question remains – do they actually believe in mermaids?
The Siren stars spoke to Hidden Remote in a new interview and revealed that they kind of do.
“I don’t know if they would be the way we imagine it, but there is a hint of this — the way species evolve on the water — a lot of mammals have very similar traits, and it’s because the water forces them to look a certain way,” Eline shared about the possibility.
She adds, “There ever been a branch of human species that have gone in there and ended up looking more aquatic than we can imagine? Why not? The sea wipes out so much evidence of those things, especially if they went deep.”
“I’m not claiming that there is, but why not? We don’t know; there’s so much we don’t know. I’m open-minded to it.”
Alex added, “A lot of people are pretty sure that an alien life exists, and I think there’s something really intriguing about this unexplored depth of the ocean. Why not, mermaids?”

During the panel, creator Eric Wald opened up about the inspiration for the series and why they set it in the real world.
“There’s a supernatural element but we wanted to include as much real science as possible,” he says.
Meanwhile, Rena revealed just why the mermaids were coming back to the surface in the show.
“What brings the mermaids to the surface is that the seabeds have been stripped of their supply of food,” she says. “So they have to come to the surface in search of food, and one gets caught. It’s a very environmental factor.”
