Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez and Hayden Byerly pose on the carpet together during the first annual Freeform Summit in Los Angeles on Thursday night (January 18).
The three Fosters actors joined Elliot Fletcher at the event to talk about what’s ahead for the show.
Speaking with TVGuide recently, EP Joanna Johnson opened up about what’s coming ahead for Mariana.
“Mariana’s still struggling to grow up a bit,” she revealed. “You know she’s still kind of young at heart and a little young in the maturity department. She’s going to find herself.”
She adds, “Mariana starts to realize in the season that this is her junior year and this is her year to really impress colleges not only with grades but with her activities…she starts to realize that she dropped the ball on some other things like robotics and sort of gotten distracted from preparing for going to college.”
In last night’s winter premiere of The Fosters, we saw Callie and Aaron break up — sort of.
EP Joanna Johnson spoke to TVGuide after the episode and opened up about how their now friends-only (with a few benefits) is going to work.
“I think she feels like she really does care for Aaron,” she shared. “She loves Aaron, but they sort of need to reset their relationship because when you sort of start a relationship as a rebound situation it sometimes can make people doubtful about whether you’re really in or not.”
Joanna goes on to explain that the couple are “going to kind of struggle with trying to start over a little bit…It’s so hard for [Callie] to trust. So she’s not real good at relationships. She tends to either want to pursue something that’s not possible or kind of blow up the relationships that are there. She has a hard time just saying yes to happiness and to a peaceful relationship.”
Callie and Aaron decided in the episode to just be friends — so, what does that entail?
“Then she will be maintaining, trying to have a friendship with Aaron that’s a little bit more than a friendship but keep those boundaries,” the EP shares.
But more so, Callie is going to be focusing more on her future: “I think she’s really trying to figure out, ‘I’m almost graduating from high school. What is my future? What is it that I want to do? What is my calling?’ She’s going to go through a really interesting journey to really figure out what she’s really meant to do and how to take her activist spirit and put it in some kind of positive direction.”
Elliot Fletcher is spilling on what fans can expect to go down between his character, Aaron, and Maia Mitchell‘s character, Callie, in the upcoming episode of The Fosters.
“In this next episode we definitely do see Aaron and Callie get a lot closer and get a lot more comfortable with each other, not only physically but emotionally, and I think that’s great,” the actor told Variety.
“There are a lot of scenes where we get closer and then we fight, or we make up, and then we fight again,” he continued. “So it was really fun to film just a beautiful hike where Aaron and Callie were looking at each other and getting to know one another on a separate level from everyone else.”
“It is very weird to me that everyone in the show, especially Callie, says, ‘You’re so confident in who you are’ because I think Aaron does struggle quite a bit,” Elliot added. “Maybe he just doesn’t show it as much. There are ways that Callie helps him already, maybe without her even knowing it. Maybe we do see more of Aaron helping Callie, but I think Callie helping Aaron is more internal.”
Elliot also shared more of his thoughts about about much he differs from his character when it comes to hate speech. Click inside to hear what he had to say…More Here! »
Yesterday, a timely episode of The Fosters, “Welcome to the Jungler,” delves into an important and controversial topic: free speech vs. hate speech.
Elliot Fletcher‘s character Aaron supports free speech even if that includes hate speech, but Elliot himself does not agree with that attitude at all IRL.
“Aaron and I hold completely different viewpoints on free/hate speech,” he wrote in a note on Twitter yesterday (August 15). “I will never stand by people who are racist, homophobic, sexist, ableist, nazis/white supremacists in general.”
He then encourages his fans to “speak up,” go to rallies, and more to protect marginalized voices.
The inaugural event took place on International Transgender Day of Visibility, which is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination.
FYI: Victoria completed her look with Steve Madden shoes and Glam Rocks jewelry. Emily wore a Self Portrait outfit with Alexander White heels.
The Fosters are breaking barriers once again by featuring a new transgender romance on the small screen.
Last night, we saw Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Aaron (Elliot Fletcher), a transgender man, share a kiss after Callie stood up for him during a family dinner.
This isn’t the first kiss the two have shared — the first was on the beach following their coffee shop meet up last season.
“[The episode] touches on a lot of things for trans kids, especially the relationship between Callie and Aaron.
“It’s really important that we do see the heroine female of a show in a relationship with a trans man,” Maia shared about it all. “I think it’s breaking down barriers.”
She adds, “I don’t think I’ve seen that, especially not on a show with our demographic. It’s a really important issue and it’s going to speak to a lot of people, particularly the trans community. I’m really proud of it.”
