Ashley Wagner Wins National Figure Skating Championships; Gracie Gold In Second

Ashley Wagner reacts with glee after nailing her free skate during the Ladie’s competition at the 2015 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships held at Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday night (January 24) in Greensboro, N.C.

The 23-year-old skater won the national title, beating Gracie Gold, who came in second, and Karen Chen, in third.

“This, of my three titles, this one tastes the sweetest,” Ashley shared after the competition with press. “This is the one that means the most to me, because this is the one that shows every single person that doubts me, every single person that says I’m too old, every single person that says I’m not capable of being a leading lady — this shows them that they need to shut their mouths and watch me skate.”

Polina Edmunds placed 4th and Mirai Nagasu slipped down to 10th.

Gracie Gold Spins Into Second After Short Program at US Figure Skating National Championships

Gracie Gold wows the crowd once again during the Ladie’s Short Program at at the 2015 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships held at Greensboro Coliseum on Thursday night (January 22) in Greensboro, N.C.

The 19-year-old Olympian came in second to Ashley Wagner with 67.02.

“It wasn’t the best short program that I have ever performed, but it was still a very strong performance,” Gracie shared.

She added, “However, it’s just the short program. I’m looking to come back strong.”

Can’t wait to see her free skate on Sunday!

Gracie Gold Names LA Sportwoman Of The Year Ahead of US Figure Skating Championships

Congrats to Gracie Gold!

The 19-year-old figure skater has been named the 2014 Sportswoman of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council!

“So honored to be named the 2014 Sportswoman of the Year. Huge thank you to the LA Sports Council!” Gracie wrote on Twitter earlier in the month, just ahead of the 2015 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships this weekend.

Gracie will be honored at an award show later this March during the L.A. Sports Awards.

Congrats again Gracie! Can’t wait for this weekend’s competition!

“Feels good to be back,” the 19-year-old Olympic figure skater captioned with the video.

Just weeks before, Gracie made the decision to withdraw from the Grand Prix finals in Barcelona, Spain which left Team USA one woman down.

“The bigger picture is that I need to recover as quickly as possible. My ultimate goals for this year are to win another U.S. title and make the podium at Worlds. These are the factors that my team and I used to make this very difficult decision,” Gracie had shared in a statement.

The 19-year-old figure skater won the gold medal at the competition, and qualified for the Grand Prix finals which happen next month in Barcelona, Spain.

“I’m excited to go to the GP Final in Barcelona,” Gracie told the press. “Although it’s a bit of a mixed blessing because it will be an extremely difficult competition with the four Russians and Ashley [Wagner] and I.”

Ashley and Gracie will go up against Russia’s Elena Radionova, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Anna Pogorilaya and Julia Lipnitskaia.

Gracie Gold Takes Gold Medal At NHK Trophy in Japan!

Gracie Gold is all smiles with her medal and trophy after winning the ladies title at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2014/2015 NHK Trophy held at the Namihaya Dome on Saturday night (November 29) in Osaka, Japan.

The 19-year-old figure skater took the gold medal with 191.16 points, ahead of Russia’s Alena Leonova (186.40) and Japan’s Satoko Miyahara (179.02).

“Of course I feel very happy to win my first Grand Prix and senior international, but I know I can do better and improve even upon this performance,” Gracie shared with press after the competition. “Of course this competition gives me confidence. I have acquired a lot of bronze medals over my career so far, so it’s nice to have a gold medal in the mix.”

Polina Edmunds and Christina Gao placed 8th and 9th. Jeremy Abbott, Ross Miner and Joshua Farris placed 5th, 7th and 11th in the men’s competition.
