Hairspray Live aired on NBC on December 7, 2016. It brought in 9.05 million viewers, with a ratings share of 2.3 in the 18–49 demographic, and a 5.9 overnight household rating.

The three actors were joined at the event by their Hairspray Live co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein to chat about the upcoming live production. The cast kicked off rehearsals this week!
During the panel, it was revealed that two original songs written for the musical movie version of Hairspray will be added into the production. Also, unlike previous NBC productions, the action will move outside of the soundstage when the scene calls for the characters to go outdoors.
It was also revealed that Sean Hayes will play Mr. Pinky and Rosie O’Donnell will be playing the gym teacher.
