Hartley Sawyer's 'The Flash' Character To Be Written Out of Series

The Flash will be losing Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man in season seven!

As you may know, Hartley Sawyer, who played the role, was fired from the show over the summer after resurfaced, offensive tweets.

Now, showrunner Eric Wallace is addressing what will happen to the character in the upcoming season.

“The beauty of comic book stories and superhero stories are the conventions that heroes come and go, but they never fade away and they never disappear entirely. So we’re going to treat it like we would if we were writing a comic book graphic novel. We’re giving the Elongated Man a bit of a rest for while. But we will leave the door open,” Eric told Entertainment Weekly. “Who knows what the future could bring. It is unknown. But I’m not saying by any means that it’s the end of the character, in fact, quite the opposite. We just don’t know when he will return, or in what form he will return. And that’s the beauty of comic book stories. It keeps it fresh.”

He also added that they are going to have the character in the beginning of the season with another actor to wrap up the storyline.

“In order to wrap that up, which we’re going to do at the top of season 7, Ralph has to be part of that,” Eric said. “Now thank goodness, Ralph is a guy who can change faces and his appearance in many ways. Without giving any spoilers away, there are a couple of ways that we can have Elongated Man still appear in at least one episode this season to wrap that storyline up, that gets us what we need and still allows fans to say goodbye to the character, at least for the indefinite future.”

“It’s funny, I guess technically it would be a recasting, but the character won’t be a big part of season 7. He’ll only be a part of just wrapping up the Sue storyline,” he added. “Yes, one could say it is a recasting, but we’re going to do it in a way that I think honors the spirit of the character and provides not only a satisfying conclusion to Sue’s murder mystery, but also it’s done with some humor.”

Hartley Sawyer Fired From 'The Flash' After Past Tweets Resurface

Hartley Sawyer will no longer be on The Flash.

The 35-year-old actor has been fired from the CW series after a string of past tweets resurfaced, THR reports.

Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for season seven of The Flash,” The CW, producers Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions and executive producer Eric Wallace, said in a statement. “In regards to Mr. Sawyer‘s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. Such remarks are antithetical to our values and polices, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.”

The tweets resurfaced in the past couple of tweets and many fans and non fans called him out, causing him to delete his Twitter account entirely. He has since issued an apology, posted on his Instagram account. See it here!

Hartley was promoted to series regular on the show back in 2018 ahead of the show’s fifth season.

'The Flash' Introduces Sue Dearborn, Who Has Close Connection to Ralph Dibney

'The Flash' Introduces Sue Dearborn, Who Has Close Connection to Ralph Dibney

Sue Dearborn has arrived on The Flash!

In the latest episode, after months of searching for Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss), Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) gets a lead on her whereabouts and finally comes face to face with his missing client.

However, Sue refuses to return home to her family, and instead, takes Ralph on a daring adventure.

Who is Sue Dearborn, you ask?

According to ComicBook.com, in the comics, Sue is the one who eventually becomes Ralph’s wife. She was “a socialite from New York who met Ralph when he crashed her debutante ball with Ralph doing something that is quintessentially Ralph Dibny: using the ruse of dealing with jewel thieves as a means to see Sue.”

“The pair ended up having a whirlwind romance and married quickly with the Dibny’s becoming one of the most loving (and beloved) couples in comics with Sue staying right by her husband’s side as he served with the Justice League.”

Candice Patton & Grant Gustin Don't Want You To Worry About Barry & Iris Splitting Up on 'The Flash'

Candice Patton & Grant Gustin Don't Want You To Worry About Barry & Iris Splitting Up on 'The Flash'

Candice Patton and Grant Gustin pose for a picture together during The Flash cast’s signing session during 2019 Comic-Con over the weekend in San Diego, Calif.

The two stars were joined by their co-stars Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, and Carlos Valdes for the meet and greet event with fans.

Just after the show’s panel earlier in the day, Candice and Grant opened up about the future of WestAllen and how you shouldn’t be worried about them splitting up at all.

“We’re pretty much still dealing with the shock of it [losing Nora], and Barry is trying aggressively to be optimistic and move forward and probably, to a fault, not dealing with it in all the way he should be dealing with it,” Grant shares about what’s going on in the couple’s lives right now.

Candice added, “I think you’ll see kind of early on, Iris kind of questions how they’re both dealing with it. They really talk about what the appropriate way is to kind of grieve Nora so that they can move forward in a positive way and get back to Team Flash, and do it in a way so that they can sustain themselves as a married couple.”

And if you’ve been worried about a divorce coming, don’t – “There’s tension, but we are coming closer in some ways too,” Grant says.

“It’s good marital tension, where it’s like, you’re not afraid of them getting divorced, but they’ve got stuff to work out, you know?” Candice shared.

FYI: Candice is wearing a Camilla and Marc dress.
