Jessica Parker Kennedy‘s Nora West-Allen has a very different relationship with each of her parents.
The 34-year-old The Flash actress recently opened up more about how Nora really loves her dad (Grant Gustin), and has a strained relationship with her mom (Candice Patton).
“She’s obsessed with her dad, so spending time with him is really, really big for her,” she told Access. “There’s something funny going on between her and her mom that we find out sort of as the show goes along. But that’s her main focus, is ‘I want to spend time with my dad.’ She just thinks it’s all really fun and silly and wonderful, and she just wants to show off and make him proud more than anything ever.”
When asked about her mom Iris, and possibly taking after her in journalism and writing, Jessica said, “I think she has a curiosity in it for sure, but I think because there’s a bit of a struggle in their relationship, she’s not that interested in her mom at the beginning. She just wants to be like a hero like her dad.”
Jessica Parker Kennedy holds onto a giant water bottle while shooting some new scenes for The Flash with on-screen dad, Grant Gustin, in Vancouver, Canada on Tuesday (October 2).
The two actors’ co-star Tom Cavanagh was also seen on the set, but it looks like he’s back behind the camera to direct another episode for the upcoming season.
Executive producer Todd Helbing opened up to ComicBook.com after the characters’ reveal in the season four finale and shared that “with [Nora], it’s the time that she comes from and what she did,” that shakes up the series.
“She makes this sort of big mistake at the end of the episode — you see the concern of what she’s done, and Barry certainly learned his lessons from time travel, so now it’s going to be interesting to put him on the different side of the problem and see how he can help her fix it.”
Candice adds that Iris’ dynamic with Nora is something fans should look forward too as well.
“Iris is very, very excited and eager to get to know her daughter who’s back from the future,” Candice shared in an interview. “And I think that, as we hinted in the finale last season, that’s kind of met with some coldness from Nora. Which we’ll get into later in the season, why there’s some distance in between the two of them.”
“It’s been really interesting to play this dynamic of Iris really wanting to enjoy this time with her daughter, and figuring out why Nora’s kind of not into that.”
It’s probably safe to say that Nora West-Allen is a daddy’s girl.
Jessica Parker Kennedy, who plays the new series regular role, opened up to Newsarama about her relationship with her mother and father in the new season of The Flash.
In the sneak peek, you could kind of pick up on some tension that Nora brings to Barry and Iris’ relationship, which hints that Nora prefers Barry over Iris. But why is that?
“Something has obviously happened for me to feel much closer to my father than my mother,” Jessica shared.
“It’s something you’ll find out relatively early on in the season.”
Jessica adds that Nora is a lot like Barry in a lot of ways, too.
“Personality-wise, I think she’s a lot like Barry. Certainly, the way Barry was early on. She’s finding her footing. She’s goofy, she’s dorky, she’s very young spirited,” she shared. “She is prone to making mistakes and other people needing to clean them up. That’s just sort of where she’s at right now. She’s in the experimental phase of her life.”
FYI: Jessica is wearing an Elisabetta Franchi top and skirt, Christian Louboutin shoes, Joan Hornig earrings and rings from EFFY Jewelry, Ben Bridge, and Graziela Gems. Candice is wearing a Jay Godfrey dress and Loriblu shoes.
During the panel, it was announced that Central City will be getting a new villain. Chris Klein has been cast as a series regular in the role of Cicada, “a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans, Cicada now seeks to exterminate the epidemic — one metahuman at a time.”
The trailer for the upcoming season five was also debuted during the panel. The show will return Tuesday, October 9th on The CW. Watch below!
