If you hadn’t heard the news, Josh Hutcherson is making his directorial debut this year with a new short film, Ape!
Speaking with Variety, The Hunger Games actor opened up about going behind the camera for the project.
“It was challenging for sure,” he admitted. “That was the thing I was the most nervous about going in, just because I love acting and directing so much and I respect both of them immensely, so to have to take on both simultaneously was daunting.”
Josh adds about his decision to take the leap into the director’s chair now: “I’ve had a few opportunities over the years to direct and I’ve written a couple shorts that I was going to direct, but there was something about just being too overly ambitious and too young. It’s such a responsibility to direct a movie.”
“It’s real leadership and with age, you gain some seniority and feel a little more grounded and confident in yourself,” he continued. “It was waiting until it felt right and this came across as a crossing point between those two factors: me always wanting to direct and now finally confident enough to do it, and this project sort of came into my life.”

The film which starred Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb and Bailee Madison, was based on a book from Katherine Paterson and if you haven’t ever watched the film or read the book — we need you to get on that right now!
Speaking with MTV, Bailee shared a super sweet moment between her and on-screen bro Josh while filming — and almost involved a major injury!
While Bailee didn’t get to do any big stunts in the film, Josh was sure to give her the experience and invited her to join him up on the treadmill (which they used for the acorn scene) in between takes.
But, he didn’t remember to harness Bailee in! She copied Josh and “flew backward and ]almost] crash[ed] into [a] post.”
“He was so sweet, he just hugged me,” she shared after the incident. “He took such good care of me. I love him with all my heart.”

Josh Hutcherson and Claudia Traisac have been dating a long time so they’ve definitely mastered how to do date nights right!
The longtime couple got a little sporty and stopped by the Los Angeles Clippers game on Monday night (November 21) at the Staples Center.
Josh and Claudia, who have been dating over three years, coupled up and kept each other laughing throughout the game.
The pair met on the set of their film Escobar: Paradise Lost in 2013 but didn’t confirm their relationship until 2015.
We’re glad these two are still going strong!
Josh Hutcherson is ready to see some change!
After walking in a peaceful protest earlier this week following the presidential election results, the Hunger Games actor headed to the Airbnb Open LA event held at The Globe on Thursday (November 17) in Los Angeles.

At the event, Josh took the stage to voice his support for Airbnb’s new service, Trips, as well as to promote Straight But Not Narrow, an organization he co-founded to help young heterosexual adults learn how to become allies of their LGBTQ peers.
“We wanted to create this organization that raised awareness about how important it is to support the LGBTQ community,” Josh says in a video posted on Airbnb’s Facebook page (below). “They find those communities online so they can get their support.”

Josh Hutcherson is one of the many people who isn’t thrilled about Donald Trump winning the Presidential election this past week.
“As an American if trump is elected… I am deeply sorry. This is not the world I dream of,” the former Hunger Games star writes on Twitter.
Josh, who was an active Bernie Sanders supporter before Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Party ticket, also participated in a peaceful protest in Downtown Los Angeles this week.
“UNITED WE STAND DEVIDED WE FALL! #peacefulprotest #notmypresident,” he wrote with a video from the event. You can watch it below!
Josh is also pictured with longtime girlfriend, Claudia Traisac, heading back to his home on Thursday (November 10).

Josh Hutcherson holds on to his brand-new phone charger after purchasing it from a gas station store on Tuesday (October 18) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The 24-year-old actor also made sure to fill up his car with gas during his visit.
