Check out this new behind-the-scenes featurette about the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries.
As we all know by now, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) are engaged and she is already starting to plan the big day.
“Caroline wouldn’t be Caroline if she didn’t jump immediately into wedding planning,” executive producer Julie Plec says in the video. “Unfortunately, the very first task – wedding dress shopping – goes horribly awry when Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) enters the scene.”
“Well, when you’re going towards the end, you can do anything you want,” Julie told ET. “You can tear a couple apart violently, you can bring a couple together forever, you can declare love epically. You can do anything you want — and we intend to do all of it.”
What about that wedding that fans are hoping for?
“Well, certainly if you made a list of things that everyone has been wanting to see, it’s up there on the board,” she said.
Executive producer Julie Plec recently confirmed that she’s already talked to Nina about coming back for the final season.
“I feel very good about it!” Julie told ET. “She and I have spoken and I know that she 100 percent wants to be there and I, of course, 100 percent want her to be there, and so it just comes down to stupid things like scheduling. Honestly, let’s put it this way: I would be devastated if it weren’t to work out, so I have a feeling the cards will be in all our favor.”
Julie also said about Elena, “We get little hints and teases of her face all through the season. Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) memories of her play a big part of the season, and I was just looking at a scene yesterday and being able to see her face brought back so much emotion and nostalgia and sweetness. It’s lovely to have her in the narrative in the way that she is.”
We’re still a few weeks away from The Vampire Diaries premiere, but here’s some scoop to hold you over!
Executive producer Julie Plec recently opened up about what we can expect from the Salvatore brothers in season eight.
“Stefan (Paul Wesley) somehow inherently understands that what’s happened to his brother is not Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) fault,” Julie told EW. “Whatever is going on with Damon, he’s under some sort of control or is in some situation that he can’t entirely get out of.”
She continued, “He’s very focused on trying to rescue his brother from this mess, understanding that the fallout of whatever it is that Damon has to do could impact his ability to be reunited with Elena (Nina Dobrev) one day.”
The Vampire Diaries returns on Friday, October 21 @ 8/7c on The CW.
“Things are final now,” Kevin told EW. “Decisions are being made. People’s lives are hanging in the balance. Relationships hang in the balance. Who’s going to end up with whom?”
Julie said, “Fans are always talking about endgame as though endgame has been chosen from minute 1. I don’t know that you could talk to a single series creator that would say confidently ‘Where I started is where I finished and there was no way in hell I was going to stray from that path.’ Dawson’s [Creek] being the perfect example.”
“You have to be open to change and be able to evolve and keep an open mind, because the next idea may be the best one,” Kevin added.
The Vampire Diaries premieres on Friday, October 21 @ 8PM on The CW.
“The indignity of Klaus Mikaelson’s situation the last five years [is being] held captive by his surrogate son and forced to be an advisor to a king that he does not recognize,” executive producer Julie Plec told EW.
She added, “Also, [he knows] Marcel is actually singularly responsible for the fact he’s alive, because so many people have come to town in the last five years desperate to see him reduced to ash.”
“We are not calling it anything, we are waiting for Season 8,” Julie told Yahoo TV. “I mean, internally, we’re calling it something, but we’re not telling people what that is yet. It’s funny, this is the first time we’ve done this little story trick where we’re actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season. What could it be that’s been around for thousands of years? We didn’t see it, but it has some creepy ass monster hands, and it has the ability to get inside your heard and strip away everything good about you. There’s a nice mystery taking us into next season about what exactly this creature is.”
Julie added, “Bonnie (Kat Graham), out of everybody, is the one who’s going to be just paralyzed by this struggle. She has two men in her life – Damon, who’s a platonic, but also deep, soulful best friend, and Enzo, who has really become her one true love – and she lost both of them in one fell swoop. In addition to that, she also lost her magic. She’s starting at an absolute deficit in terms of being able to fix this problem. That’s going to have a great impact on her.”
