Cami Has a Long Vampire Transition Coming Up on 'The Originals'

We’re still reeling from last week’s episode of The Originals!

Not only did Jackson (Nathan Parsons) – SPOILER ALERT! – die, but Cami (Leah Pipes) officially became a vampire!

“Cami is someone who has some dark impulses and we’ve talked about how maybe that’s what led her to be fascinated by psychology and to be fascinated by Klaus and maybe those are some of the reasons why she stayed in New Orleans to begin with,” executive producer Michael Narducci told EW. “And now that that side of her is heightened by being a vampire, I think that’s something she’s going to want to explore. I think she’s in for a long transition into discovering who she’s going to be as a vampire.”

Michael continued, “She’s still going to love the people that she loves. She might be more inclined to take what she wants because she can. She might be less inclined to be afraid of people who are stronger than her because now she’s going to have power. She knows that there are enemies out there and she’s going to want to have to deal with them and not play any kind of victim card but be a little bit more physical and relish in being a vampire.”

“I don’t think Klaus is genetically engineered to be a good influence,” Michael added. “We’re talking about morally good.”

TELL JJJ: What do you think about Cami becoming a vampire?

OMG! Did Cami Really [SPOILER] on 'The Originals'?!

OMG! Did Cami Really [SPOILER] on 'The Originals'?!

WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED!

It was quite a midseason finale for The Originals, as we said goodbye to one of the main characters, Cami (Leah Pipes).

The Originals executive producer Michael Narducci spoke with EW after the episode aired on Thursday night (December 10) about Cami’s death and the big question on everyone’s mind — is Cami really dead?

“We’re all people who love to follow the lives of these fictional characters, and we need to see their successes, we need to see their joys, we need to see their challenges, we need to see their defeats,” he explained. “We need to see how they respond in the midst of utmost despair. We have to believe that there is hope and there is love and there is family and there is the devotion that we have to one another as spirits and human people. That’s the story that we’re telling.”

Not exactly an answer, but Leah did tweet about Cami’s departure from the show afterwards.

Jason Dohring & Leah Pipes Preview Their Partnership on 'The Originals' (JJJ Interview)

Jason Dohring & Leah Pipes Preview Their Partnership on 'The Originals' (JJJ Interview)

There’s a new detective in New Orleans on this season of The Originals and we got the scoop straight from newest castmember Jason Dohring!

“There’s a gruesome crime committed in the Quarter and he winds up investigating that,” Jason told us during a recent set visit. “That leads him to working with Cami (Leah Pipes), who helps build a profile of this killer. And that murder turns into many more. It sort of gets out of hand.”

It turns out Detective Will Kinney has a past with Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood), who connects him to Cami.

“Whenever there’s any sort of occult happening or supernatural aspect to a crime, they call in Vincent,” Yusuf told JJJ. “I don’t think Will has an idea that there’s really a supernatural aspect that he needs to be aware of in New Orleans.”

Of course, that makes things difficult for their investigation. “Obviously, [Cami] knows about the supernatural element and he doesn’t, so she’s playing a couple sides here,” Jason said. “We’re going about it our different ways and suspecting different people.”

“He called Cami in because [the murders] look vampire-ish and we don’t know who did it,” Leah told JJJ. “Obviously, a lot of people are pointing fingers and a lot of people are pointing fingers at Klaus (Joseph Morgan), the most evil vampire ever.”

Because Vincent has given up practicing witchcraft, he can’t exactly use a locator spell or some sort of magical loophole to help out.

“His people and his city are under attack. Is he going to give up this self-imposed ban of magic for the greater good of the city?” Yusuf asked.

Meanwhile, even amid all the murderous happenings, we’re intrigued to see how the relationship between Will and Cami devlops.

Leah said, “I think there’s a connection beyond just being human. I think there’s a connection of being a noble human being trying to do the right thing in a world full of monsters. And I also wouldn’t mind Cami going on a date with Jason Dohring either (laughs).”

“I think there’s always chance for romance,” Jason added.

The Originals premieres TONIGHT, October 8 @ 9PM on The CW!

'The Originals' Cast Give Their Characters Advice for Season Three (JJJ Interview)

'The Originals' Cast Give Their Characters Advice for Season Three (JJJ Interview)

The Originals are back tonight and the French Quarter is once again divided – not to mention, plagued with mysterious murders.

We recently caught up with Leah Pipes and Danielle Campbell on set in Atlanta where we asked them what advice they would give their respective characters, Cami and Davina, heading into season three.

“My advice would be to think through your actions before taking them because I feel like that’s the thing she struggled the most with,” Danielle told us. “All of her intentions are really really honest, but I don’t think she’s thought through all of her plans, or possible interferences that could come into play.”

Leah said, “I mean, I feel like every season I feel the same way. Truly as a friend, what I would tell Cami is get out of New Orleans. ‘What are you doing? I know you have a family legacy.’ I think that’s also Vincent’s (Yusuf Gatewood) advice to her. ‘Get out. What are we even doing here? We’re trying to get people who are evil to be peaceful.’ It’s just a lost cause.”

The Originals' Leah Pipes on Klaus & Cami's Season Three 'Boundaries' (JJJ Interview)

The Originals' Leah Pipes on Klaus & Cami's Season Three 'Boundaries' (JJJ Interview)

Dying for some scoop on The Originals? You’re in luck!

JJJ recently sat down with star Leah Pipes on set in Atlanta and talked all things Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Cami (or “Klamille” as fans call them)!

When season three picks up, Cami has a lot on her plate.

“Cami got her degree, so she’s starting up her practice as a therapist and client number one is Mr. Klaus Mikaelson,” Leah told us. “She’s starting out with the ultimate challenge and we’ll see how she does. She’s attempting to make very clear boundaries between her and Klaus in order to have a purely professional relationship with him.”

That, of course, proves harder than it seems. Klaus is willingly going to therapy, but does he have ulterior motives?

Leah said, “I think Klaus has finally come to terms with the fact that Cami really does care about him and wants the best for him. I think he is getting to the point where he cares enough about his child that he wants to a better person and work through issues for his child. So he does go willingly to Cami to hopefully come out a better person, but he doesn’t respect the boundaries as much as she’d like him to.”

Cami will also be involved with a major murder case, which doesn’t exactly sit well with Klaus. “He’s kind of always trying to control her and she is woman who is very independent and refuses to allow him to have any say in her choices,” Leah said.

The Originals premieres on Thursday, October 8 @ 9PM on The CW!
