Lidya Jewett is lending her voice to a new animated movie musical!
The 14-year-old actress will play one of three overzealous scout troopers, alongside Katie Lowes and Olivia Trujillo, in the upcoming Vivo, Deadline reveals.
The film comes from Lin-Manuel Miranda, and will premiere on Netflix across the world, except for China.
Gregory Diaz IV is making a splash in two brand new trailers for his upcoming movie musical In The Heights!
The 15-year-old stars as Sonny in the film, which is the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s Tony-award winning Broadway musical.
Here’s a synopsis: Lights up on Washington Heights, a world very much of its place, but universal in its experience, where the streets are made of music and little dreams become big… The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi, who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
If you didn’t know, the 71-year-old songwriter and composer co-wrote the music for the original animated Disney film, and he wrote four new original songs with Lin-Manuel Miranda for the new version.
“There is some rapping in it and I really can’t take much credit for the rap aspect of it,” he said on the UK-based arts and theatre podcast eleven. “Yeah, there’s some rapping in it, there’s some very Menken songs, there’s some very Miranda songs. But it’s all the blend of Menken-Miranda.”
“I love him, I love working with him,” he continued. “I’m glad we had the opportunity to do that and he’s also a producer on the movie but Lin juggles a lot of things, as I do, so we will have occasional contact. Right now it’s in the hands of the amazing [director] Rob Marshall and as we speak they are in London right now filming.”
Alan also gushed over star Halle Bailey, who’s taking on the role of Ariel.
“Oh my gosh, she is adorable and so talented. I met Halle at the recording sessions,” he said. “I did have to be educated in terms of what she and her sister do together, which is incredible. She is an amazing talent, a beautiful girl, and I got to meet her family.”
Last summer, Lin also gushed over Halle and what it was like working with Alan.
The first ever music video for “Feliz Navidad” was released on Christmas Eve (December 24)!
The new video marks the 50th anniversary of the famous song by José Feliciano, and features a lot of famous faces.
“Feliz Navidad! Thanks to all of the incredible artists and performers and especially the FANS for making this anniversary so special!” José wrote in the video description for the song.
Also in the video are Gloria Gaynor, Big & Rich, Michael Bolton, Los Temerarios, Emmanuel, Isabella Castillo, Pitingo, Patricia Manterola, Jesus Molina, La India, Julio Iglesias Jr., Tony Carreira, Bertin Osborne, Pablo Montero, El Dasa, Nikki Vianna, Gord Bamford, Leo Dan, Frankie J, Sam Moore, and Styx.
If you didn’t know, the Hamilton creator is actually involved in the movie – he’s co-writing four new songs with composer Alan Menken.
In a recent interview, Lin-Manuel opened up about Halle, who will of course be playing the lead role, Ariel.
“Halle Bailey is going to be such an incredible Ariel,” he told ET‘s Keltie Knight. “And getting to write music for these characters that are probably the reason I started writing musicals in the first place, it was actually easier than I thought.”
“But the hardest part was my own intimidation working with Alan Menken and that was entirely self-imposed,” Lin-Manuel added. “But when it came to how these characters speak and what they say, I’ve known that all my life. So that was a joy.”
