Fans are finally finding out some central plot points from the Lizzie McGuire reboot that was recently put on hold.
The script for the first episode, which was obtained by THR, “acknowledges the existence of sex with cheating as a central plot point.”
The more mature plot line aligns with Hilary Duff‘s statement that inferred that Disney+ didn’t want to move forward unless the show had a PG rating.
“I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating. It’s important to me that just as her experience as a preteen / teenager navigating her life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable,” Hilary wrote.
Another Disney+ show was just moved to Hulu due to the subject matter.
Hilary Duff is speaking out about why the Lizzie McGuire reboot series is on hold.
The actress addressed the issue on Instagram on Friday (February 28).

“Was incredibly excited to launch ‘Lizzie’ on D+ and my passion remains!” she wrote. “However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her.”
“I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating,” she continued. “It’s important to me that just as her experience as a preteen / teenager navigating her life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable.”
“It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again,” she added.

We have new information about the Lizzie McGuire reboot after star Hilary Duff spoke out.
Creator Terri Minsky, who left the series over creative differences with Disney, is speaking out about the concept of the show.
“I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” she told Variety. “Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”
Sources also told the publication that Hilary is “none too happy with the Mouse House for firing Terri. The two women wanted to do a more adult version of Lizzie for the revival, while Disney wants a show that would appeal to kids and families, something more akin to the original series.”
A Disney spokesperson reassured that they have every intention of moving forward with the reboot.
“We paused production on Lizzie McGuire a few weeks ago to allow time for some creative re-development,” they told Variety. “Our goal is to resume production and to tell an authentic story that connects to the millions who are emotionally invested in the character, and a new generation of viewers too.”

Hilary Duff is seemingly giving an update on the Lizzie McGuire reboot.
If you forgot, the 32-year-old actress’ Disney+ series was recently put on hold to find a new creative direction.
The Lizzie McGuire reboot was supposed to debut this year, but now there is no word on what’s going on with the show, even after Disney+ shared a first look teaser for it.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Love, Simon TV series was moved from Disney+ to Hulu. Hilary re-posted a news headline and added her own caption, suggesting that her show might have received similar feedback.
“Love, Simon TV Show Pulled From Disney+ as It’s Not ‘Family-Friendly,’” the headline reads.
“Sounds familiar…” she wrote, circling the headline.

The Game of Thrones star shared her thoughts on the reboot in a since-expired Instagram Stories clip.

“The Lizzie McGuire show has been put on hold,” Sophie Turner said. “I’m obviously devastated like the rest of us, but I’m pretty sure – like, is Miranda appearing in this season, because I’m here. I’m available. I am your new Miranda.”
“Lizzie McGuire people, please reach out to me,” she added.
Miranda was played by Lalaine in the original series.
Production on the new Lizzie McGuire series is currently on hold.

It looks like not all hope is lost for the Lizzie McGuire reboot!
After the series parted ways with showrunner Terri Minsky, Disney+ confirmed that the the show would be put on hold. The news came just days after the network shared the first clip from the reboot.
Now, star Hilary Duff is back on the Disney campus in Los Angeles, where she appeared to be taking meetings about the show.
Hilary took to her Instagram to share a photo posing in front of one of the Disney lot’s iconic buildings.
She then mysteriously captioned the photo with “. . .”

Hilary Duff and the cast had already filmed two episodes for the upcoming revival series, but Disney+ confirms that show will get a “new lens.”
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” a Disney spokesperson told Variety. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
