Maksim Chmerkovskiy is still the biggest supporter of his partner Heather Morris on Dancing With the Stars, despite being sidelined by a calf injury.
We spoke with Maks last night right after Heather and her fill-in partner Alan Bersten gave their throwback performance.
“I’m just interested in her growth and potential,” Maks beams to us about proudly his partner. “At this point in the game, it doesn’t really matter who she’s with. I think Alan did an amazing job.”
Aww!
Maksim is totally supportive and appreciate of Alan, but he is still dying to get back on the dance floor.
When is that going to happen?
“My goal is next week,” Maks tells us.
This week, he’ll be sitting in on the rehearsing sessions with Heather and Alan, but he’s going to have to hold himself back.
“So, this week I just don’t want to do something stupid and then regret it,” he explains. “I want to do the right thing. If this is the result of one week, I’m sure I’m going to be more than ready.”
Despite partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s serious injury, Heather Morris gave Glee fans an epic throwback to that iconic Britney Spears episode of the Fox series with a tango to “Toxic” on Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars.
After the show, we talked to Heather, her fill-in partner Alan Bersten and Maksim backstage at DWTS to find out when the pro plans on returning to the ballroom and how he’ll be lending a helping hand to Heather this week.
“This week I’m going to be with Heather and Alan in rehearsal,” Maksim tells us. “This is again going to be a joint effort. I was well on top of what was happening with the tango, but it was hard because I was away, this is going to be a lot easier.”
Alan opened up about how Maksim‘s return to rehearsals will affect their dynamic this week.
“It’s only gonna help it, because at the end of the day, it’s Heather and Maks who are a partnership, and I’m just here to fill in,” Alan explains. “I always want that reassurance from Maks when I’m choreographing. And it really helps having him in the room.”
“But, is it going to be two cooks in the kitchen is what we’re wondering?” Heather wonders. “That’s our cliffhanger!”

Maks is actually looking for a full comeback this week! So, we’ll see if he’ll be dancing next week!
Heather and Alan earned 33 points, out of 40, from the judges. The two performed an intense Tango to Britney Spears‘ “Toxic”.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy had surgery on his calf after injuring himself during Dancing with the Stars rehearsal!
The 37-year-old dancer will be sidelined again this coming week and won’t dance with Heather Morris.
Maks posted a photo from his hospital bed in Ashtabula, Ohio, with the caption, “Gettin’ un-broken…#seedsorthopaedics.”
Maks‘ fiancee Peta Murgatroyd posted a photo of their son Shai and wished him well in the hospital. See that photo below!
Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s Dancing With the Stars injury is more serious than previously thought.
His fiancee Peta Murgatroyd confirmed that he does in fact need surgery.

“I think it’s been said that he has tears in his calf muscles, so it’s going to take a couple of weeks to get better,” Peta told Access Hollywood. “So I hope he’s back out there in a couple weeks killing it again.”
She added, “He’s having a surgery done, yeah. But then rehab starts after that. It’s serious in that regard. It’s not just an ice pack situation. He’s a quick healer. He’s going to be fine.”
We’re wishing a speedy recover for Maks!
Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be off his feet for a while, but he promises this won’t be the last we seen of him!
The Dancing With the Stars pro took to Instagram to cheer on his partner Heather Morris while he nurses a nasty calf injury.
“I’m so proud of @heatherrelizabethh for getting it done in an amazing fashion!” Maks wrote. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be next to you, but I promise to work harder than ever and get my ass back to the ballroom as soon as humanly possible!”
He continued, “HUGE (but not that huge) Thank You to @alanbersten for stepping in at the last second and doing a great job!”
“And finally, to all our fans… I’ve said in the beginning of the season that I was back because of how supportive you’ve always been to me and I promise that this isn’t the last you’ve seen of me,” Maks added. “I will make every effort to make you proud yet… In the mean time PLEASE VOTE FOR #teamMaksimumHeat !!!”

The actress teamed up with Alan Bersten after regular partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy pulled his calf muscle just before the weekend.
Heather and Alan performed a high stepping Jive, set to “Grown” from JJJ‘s girl crush Little Mix.

There was some controversy about Heather‘s breakdown in the middle with troupe dancers Hayley Erbert and Brittany Cherry. However, judge Julianne Hough liked it!
Heather and Alan earned 30 points, out of 40, from the judges.
