While the second season will premiere in March, the cast is currently filming season three in Vancouver.
Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the sinister Count Olaf in the Netflix series, told TVGuide that three seasons would actually cover all 13 of Lemony Snicket’s books.
“We’ve intentionally been very truthful and factual and loyal to the books,” Neil shared. “We’ve added a few characters that aren’t in the books, we’ve added some songs that you probably couldn’t put into the books, but for the most part we’re sticking to the structure of what already worked.”
Netflix announced over the weekend that the series, based on the series by Lemony Snicket, will return on March 30th.
“Tonally, we have more action, and things are little darker and sadder,” EP Barry Sonnenfeld shared with EW recently.
Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Count Olaf, added, “Now that we’re in season 2 – and I think the same is true with the books – now the Baudelaires can start to take some control and try and take more action. I think season 2 ends up being a little bigger in its scope and scale, but also allows for a little bit of a more fevered heartbeat from our protagonists.”
Season two, which covers books 5 through 9, continues as the Baudelaire children move from a boarding school to a fancy penthouse apartment, a vile village, and a few other depressing and short-lived homes.
In the new season, we’ll get 10 more one-hour episodes of Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) trying to steal the Baudelaire orphans’ fortune.
