Meryl Davis & Charlie White Will Not Compete at 2018 Olympics

Meryl Davis & Charlie White Will Not Compete at 2018 Olympics

This makes our hearts break — Meryl Davis and Charlie White will not be competing at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics next year.

The 2014 Ice Dance Olympic champions have made the decision not to return to the Olympic ice in South Korea next year and made the announcement this morning.

“I hate to be a little bit of a downer maybe for our fans, but we’ve decided not to compete at the Olympics,” Charlie shared on Today after skating at Rockefeller Center.

Meryl added, “It was one that took us three years to come up with. We gave ourselves a lot of time. With the ability to explore what we really felt, I think we’re really happy with that decision.”

While we’re sad they won’t be on the ice at the Olympics next year, they’re not completely saying goodbye.

This spring, Meryl and Charlie will be on the Stars on Ice tour.

Meryl Davis looked so beautiful at the 2016 UNICEF Snowflake Ball last night in New York City!

The Olympic ice dancer and Dancing With The Stars champion looked every bit of the ice princess we know she is at the annual event.

While there, Meryl also opened up about the backlash that came after her tweet about the Nike fitness campaign with Bella Hadid.

“It took on a life of its own that I didn’t really intend for it to, which is a reminder for me to definitely think through all the sides of things before I put something out there,” she says.

She adds, “I’m really passionate about making sure that different women are represented in that kind of industry, so my intention is definitely to draw attention to the fact that it’s important to show athletes.”

“It’s important to show women, in all different walks of life, in that kind of imagery,” Meryl continued. “Unfortunately, I don’t think everyone necessarily understood my tweet the way it was intended, but it’s a good lesson for me to learn.”

Olympian Meryl Davis Speaks Out About Her Tweet; Wants To See 'Inclusiveness' In Fashion Campaigns

Meryl Davis has released a statement after her tweet went viral for calling out fitness brands for using more models than athletes in their campaigns.

“As someone who has experienced just how hurtful comments on the internet can be, my intention is to promote the use of a diversified ideal of beauty and support the role I believe female athletes can play in the pursuit of that,” the Olympian ice dancer, and former Dancing With The Stars winner, shares.

Meryl adds, “I feel very strongly that all women should be represented in the media for young girls to see and my intention is to encourage inclusiveness. I am about women supporting women and building one another up.”

If you missed it, Meryl spoke out about the campaigns in a tweet, which Bella Hadid‘s mom Yolanda, defended.

Bella Hadid's Mom Defends Her Nike Campaign After Meryl Davis' Comments

Bella Hadid's Mom Defends Her Nike Campaign After Meryl Davis' Comments

Bella Hadid‘s mom is defending her after she was called out by Olympic athlete Meryl Davis for her Nike campaign.

The Olympic figure skater thinks the athleticwear brands should only use athletes in their ad campaigns and she’s not happy with Nike for hiring Bella to model in a new campaign. She took to her social media page to share a collage featuring Bella in Nike, Kylie Jenner in Puma, and Aly Raisman in Reebok. She captioned the pic, “I’ll take the one promoted by the athlete please.”

Bella‘s mom Yolanda Hadid has come to her defense and told TMZ that her daughter competed in equestrian riding from when she was 3 until she was 15, when she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. She even had dreams of going to the Olympics in the sport.

“You obviously don’t have to be an athlete to wear or enjoy Nike wear,” Yolanda said.

WHO DO YOU AGREE with on the matter – Yolanda Hadid or Meryl Davis?
