'Motherland: Fort Salem' Renewed For Season 2 at Freeform, Plus More Exciting Announcements!

Freeform has just made a ton of very exciting announcements!!

The network revealed that new show Motherland: Fort Salem has been renewed for a second season, as well as new comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.

In addition to the Motherland renewal, Lyne Renee, who plays General Alder, has been upped to series regular!

“I could not be more grateful for the chance to keep exploring the world of ‘Motherland: Fort Salem,’” Writer/Creator Eliot Laurence said in a statment. “Freeform has been such a fabulous home for us through the development process, production, post and marketing. I’m also blown away by the love we’ve gotten from our fans, whose excitement and passion played a massive part in this renewal. Thank you, witches!”

“This is great news, not just because it means I have a group of writers that have to hang out on my screen with me all day and I don’t have to be alone anymore getting weird,” Creator, Executive Producer and star Josh Thomas said of EGBO, “but because I love this show and I love these characters and I love our cast and crew and making another season is just going to be so nice.”

Freeform also revealed that the second half of season three of grown-ish and new series Cruel Summer will premiere in 2021.

The Bold Type will premiere in June and new series Love In The Time Of Corona will premiere in August 2020.

This year’s holiday programming “31 Nights of Halloween,” “Kickoff to Christmas” and “25 Days of Christmas,” will be back and bigger than ever. “31 Nights of Halloween” will once again feature the classics Hocus Pocus and Ghostbusters, while “25 Days of Christmas” will bring you The Santa Clause trilogy and be the cable home of Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

This year’s Valentine’s Day themed event “Love However the FF You Want” will be back in 2021, and Freeform will kick off the new “Summer Singalong,” with movies, music and the network premiere of the live action Aladdin!

The series follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into terrifying and thrilling early deployment.

In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped with women on the front lines, the fight looming and terrorist threats that are strikingly familiar to our world, but with supernatural tactics and weapons.

Taylor Hickson Shares What Sets 'Motherland: Fort Salem' Apart From Other Witchcraft Shows

The three actresses went on the series to chat about their new Freeform show Motherland: Fort Salem.

During their interview, Taylor opened up about how she thinks that their show differs from other shows about witchcraft.

“One thing I think Motherland does so well that no other show seems to shed light on, is just the divinity and the true meaning of what Wiccan culture,” she said.

“I think it’s so demonized. It’s such a misunderstood community, and it’s so much about femininity, and light, and supporting each other. Healing,” Taylor added.

'Motherland: Fort Salem' Gets Premiere Date & New Trailer - Watch!

Motherland: Fort Salem how has a premiere date!

The Freeform series revealed the date and a new trailer at the 2020 Winter TCA Press Tour held at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena on Friday (January 17) in Pasadena, Calif.

Stars Demetria McKinney, Amalia Holm, Taylor Hickson, Ashley Nicole Williams, and Jessica Sutton were all in attendance.

The premiere date for the 10-episode, one-hour drama is set for March 18 at 9 p.m. EDT/PDT.

Here’s the synopsis: “Set in an alternate, present-day America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the burgeoning U.S. government to fight for their country, Motherland: Fort Salem follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into terrifying and thrilling
early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with women on
the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are strikingly familiar to our world, but with
supernatural tactics and weapons.”

At the event, Nicole said about creator Eliot Laurence (via Deadline), “He has the world in his head.” Demetria added, “To understand the power women possess and to have a man (Laurence) understand that, it’s been a joy, an honor and a pleasure.”

The first official teaser for Freeform’s new series, Motherland: Fort Salem is out.

The one-hour drama was just greenlit for a 10-episode series, which is set in an alternate version of America, where witches have agreed to fight for the U.S. in exchange for an end to their persecution. And no, you did not misread any part of that sentence.

Motherland: Fort Salem will follow three young women from basic training in combat magic into terrifying and thrilling early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped with women on the front lines, the fight looming and terrorist threats that are strikingly familiar to our world, but with supernatural tactics and weapons.

Taylor Hickson is Raelle, a recruit with “major authority issues”; Jessica Sutton is Tally, who joins the fight “despite her mother’s passionate disapproval”; Amalia Holm is Scylla, a suspicious recruit who is “not what she appears to be”; and Demetria McKinney is Anacostia, a “tough but wryly humorous” drill sergeant.
