Answer: No, the live action Mulan remake will not be a musical.
The new Disney movie will reportedly feature songs from the animated movie, but they will be featured as instrumentals, and will NOT be sung by the cast.
Director Niki Caro opened up in a 2017 interview about whether or not the film would be a musical.
“Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children,” she told Moviefone, adding, “It’s a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving.”
Some of the famous songs include, “I’ll Make a Man Out Of You,” “Reflection,” and “Honor To Us All.”
Mulan won’t be the first Disney live action remake to exclude music from it’s animated counterpart. 2015′s Cinderella, starring Lily James and Richard Madden, and 2019′s Dumbo, starring Eva Green and Colin Farrell, were both non-musicals.
