Mulan is getting very star-studded, very fast, and we are here for it!

After finding lead star Liu Yifei late last year, the film has now added four other Asian stars – Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Xana Tang and Gong Li.

Jet is set to star as the emperor of China, who orders the mobilization of troops via the conscription of one male from each household, while Gong will take on the villainous role of a powerful witch.

Donnie will portray Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung, while Xana will star as an original character, Mulan’s sister.

Mulan is set for a March 27th, 2020 release.

Disney’s upcoming live action movie for Mulan has been pushed back to 2020, Variety reports.

The flick, which will star Chinese actress Liu Yifei in the title role, was originally slated for Nov. 2, 2018. Now, the flick will premiere on March 27, 2020.

As previously reported, the entire movie will feature an all-Chinese cast.

“The spec script was a jumping-off point for a new take on the story that draws from both the literary ballad of Mulan and Disney’s 1998 animated film,” a source shared.

“Mulan is and will always be the lead character in the story, and all primary roles, including the love interest, are Chinese.”

Disney has found it’s Mulan star!

Liu Yifei has been cast as the title character for Disney’s upcoming live action remake, which is still set to debut next year.

According to THR, Liu meets all the requirements that the casting team were after: credible martial arts skills, the ability to speak English and the most ineffable requirement of all: star quality.

She’s actually one of China’s most popular actresses and has a ton of credits to her name like The Forbidden Kingdom, Outcast, The Chinese Widow, and the fantasy romance Once Upon a Time.

Update: Live-Action 'Mulan' Will Have Music *Breathes Sigh of Relief*

Late last month, reports circled the Internet that the live-action Mulan will not have music, sending fans into an all-out rage spiral (because it’s a film worth fighting for!)

Director Niki Caro later disputed this, saying that no decisions have been made as of yet.

Well, guess what Mulan super-fans… Niki clarified in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the film will “for sure” have music, so you may hear “Reflection”‘s somber ballad on the big screen after all!

Does anyone else feel like an enormous load has been taken off their shoulders? After all, Mulan without music is like Ethan Dolan without Grayson: unimaginable.

There were a lot of reports going around that the live-action Mulan reboot wouldn’t feature any music, but that’s now being clarified.

“I don’t know where that’s come from” director Niki Caro told the Los Angeles Times. “We’ve never talked about songs, and no decision has been made.”

Rumors started when Niki said in a recent interview that, “From what I understand, no songs right now.”

What she meant was that they haven’t decided yet, but some people assumed she meant that there will definitely not be music.

“It is exciting that people are this passionate,” Niki said.

DO YOU THINK the movie should be a musical?

Will Disney's Live Action 'Mulan' Be a Musical?

Will Disney's Live Action 'Mulan' Be a Musical?

Speaking of Disney Princesses, a brand new interview suggests that the live action remake of Mulan might not be a musical after all.

Sean Bailey, who is Disney’s president of Motion Picture Production, spoke with Vulture about the upcoming movie, which will be directed by Nikki Caro.

Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott,” he shared.

The article then states this: “(Sources close to production say that, unlike Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, Mulan is not expected to prominently feature songs, though that could change.)”

So, a Mulan without “Reflection”, “A Girl Worth Fighting For” or “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”? If anything, we need the instrumental versions, please.

While we wait to hear more, keep voting on who you’d want to play Mulan on JJJ!
