The Flash's Sue Dearborn Is Not Going Anywhere, Despite Ralph Dibny Leaving

The Flash fans will not have to worry about Sue Dearborn being written out of the show.

Last week, we revealed that Hartley Sawyer‘s Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man will be written off in the upcoming seventh season, following his firing over the summer.

Natalie Dreyfuss‘ character Sue Dearborn came into the show through her relationship with Ralph, but The Flash‘s showrunner Eric Wallace has assured that she isn’t going anywhere!

“You’re going to see Sue more than once this year even without the Elongated Man — on her own, making appearances, and helping Team Flash in an unexpected way. And it’s just going to be hilarious because she was so much fun,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“I called up Natalie and said, ‘Don’t worry, you’re still going to be part of this season. We’ll find a way.’ Now, when I told her that, to be honest, I wasn’t quite sure [how]. But I am happy to report we found a way,” Eric added, saying that keeping her was “one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make as a showrunner.”

Eric also shared about some of their plans with Sue in season seven, and her future in the show.

“Now we can expand her character and give her more backstory and more growth in ways that we hadn’t initially planned. [It's] really exciting to see how she’s going to interact more with Team Flash once her name has been cleared — because we are going to clear her name obviously. But then what’s the reason for her to come back to Central City? And that’s going to be a bit of her story this season,” he dished.

“You try to take lemons and make lemonade, and suddenly, now Sue’s possibilities are wide open,” Eric continued. “And we have a particular storyline that she’s going to help us out with, [specifically] with one of our villains this season that we would have never gotten to had not the circumstances changed. So it is going to be, I think, fun and unexpected for the audience, as much as it was for us to write.”

Natalie recently opened up about her audition with Hartley and how it was nice seeing an old friend.

“I definitely find it easier. I think when I auditioned for the role, walking in for a chemistry read and having it be an old friend was just such a lovely surprise. And also I’m so comfortable messing with him,” she said.

'The Flash' Introduces Sue Dearborn, Who Has Close Connection to Ralph Dibney

Sue Dearborn has arrived on The Flash!

In the latest episode, after months of searching for Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss), Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) gets a lead on her whereabouts and finally comes face to face with his missing client.

However, Sue refuses to return home to her family, and instead, takes Ralph on a daring adventure.

Who is Sue Dearborn, you ask?

According to ComicBook.com, in the comics, Sue is the one who eventually becomes Ralph’s wife. She was “a socialite from New York who met Ralph when he crashed her debutante ball with Ralph doing something that is quintessentially Ralph Dibny: using the ruse of dealing with jewel thieves as a means to see Sue.”

“The pair ended up having a whirlwind romance and married quickly with the Dibny’s becoming one of the most loving (and beloved) couples in comics with Sue staying right by her husband’s side as he served with the Justice League.”
