Supergirl Is Tied Up in New Set Photos Featuring Melissa Benoist & More

Melissa Benoist is hard at work on the final season of her The CW series Supergirl!

The 32-year-old actress was seen tied up while filming an action-packed scene on Tuesday (March 30) in Vancouver, Canada.

Melissa, who plays the title character, was joined on set by co-stars Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Nicole Maines, and Jesse Rath.

In a new interview with EW, Melissa opened up about the one request she had when producers asked her how she wanted Kara Zor-El’s journey to end.

“They pitched it to me because they wanted to know if I had any input as to where I wanted to see Kara ending up at the end of the series,” she said. “I had one request, and it wasn’t even something they were thinking about doing. They pitched me the end, and it’s really lovely. It’s a great ending. I feel fantastic about it.”

Nicole Maines Reveals She Has a Black Belt For This In Our Exclusive 10 Fun Facts Feature!

Nicole Maines Reveals She Has a Black Belt For This In Our Exclusive 10 Fun Facts Feature!

Nicole Maines is opening up about by sharing some fun facts about herself!

The 22-year-old actress stars as Nia Nal/Dreamer on the hit CW series Supergirl.

While many know Nicole from her role as the first ever transgender superhero, she’s also a transgender rights activist in real life. She even won the court case Doe v. Regional School Unit 26 against her Maine school district for violating the Human Rights Act.

Just earlier this month, Nicole opened up about wanting to see all kinds of different roles for transgender actors and actresses.

While getting to know Nicole, we learned 10 Fun Facts about the actress and activist, including her favorite movie scene, what martial art she has a black belt in, and what Hogwarts house she would be in. (If you missed it, see what she said about still being a Harry Potter fan, despite author JK Rowling‘s transphobic remarks.)

  • 1. I went to college for Studio Art, but was never finished because I joined Supergirl just before my senior year.
  • 2. I’ve watched Beauty and the Beast three times in the past month.
  • 3. When I was in fifth grade, I got my black belt in taekwondo.
  • 4. My first ever acting role was Veruca Salt in my middle school play.
  • 5. My favorite flavor of ice cream is orange pineapple, but I can never find it anywhere. My dad and I are trying to perfect our own.

Trans Actress Nicole Maines Explains Why She's Still a 'Harry Potter' Fan After JK Rowling's Comments

Trans Actress Nicole Maines Explains Why She's Still a 'Harry Potter' Fan After JK Rowling's Comments

Nicole Maines is speaking out about JK Rowling‘s recent transphobic remarks.

The 22-year-old Supergirl actress and transgender activist opened up about why she remains a fan of Harry Potter, despite the author’s comments.

“What makes all of this so heartbreaking and disappointing is that I was — and still am — a ‘Harry Potter’ fan. I’m a Slytherin through and through. It’s heartbreaking to so many LGBTQ fans of the series. These books have helped so many come out and come to terms with their identities. How many young, queer kids fantasize about coming out of the closet and then learning magic? That’s the best case scenario,” Nicole wrote in a guest column for Variety.

Rowling’s comments speak against the very message of her books — about being stronger together, about inclusion, about self-discovery, bravery and triumph over adversity. It’s contradictory to the world that she created,” she continued. “But I’m still a fan, and I’ll tell you why: because these books and their messages still exist, and whatever views Rowling personally has can’t take that away from us. Nobody can take that away from us, and that world really belongs to the fans now. Nobody can change if these helped you come out. That belongs to you.”

“I think it’s really important to recognize and talk about that, in a time where we are witnessing a historic change in the fight to end oppression against Black lives, she would choose now to attack trans identities and use her massive platform to take away from that discussion. The trans movement and the Black Lives Matter movement share a similar fight in our battles to be safe in our bodies and in our skin, when other people have determined that we are somehow worthy of being treated as less than,” Nicole added.

“It is exhausting to constantly have to try to explain to people, in simpler and simpler terms, that we are just as deserving of human rights, that we’re just as deserving of feeling as safe as they are. And that is what we should be talking about. J.K. Girl. Read the room.”
