There are 11 days left until the premiere of On My Block season two and Jessica Marie Garcia is giving us a little teaser about the new episodes, especially when it comes to Jasmine.
“She is actually more of a complex character than I have ever professionally played,” the actress shared in a new interview with MEAWW.
Jessica continues, “Comedy stems from drama. She’s funny and loud because she’s trying to distract you from the walls she’s built around her. She wants to be liked and have friends. She leads in her sexuality because she feels like that’s what she’s supposed to do to be liked.”
It looks like we’ll also get a glimpse of what life is like for Jasmine at home.
“I believe you’re going to see a glimpse of her home life and dive a little deeper into other layers of who Jasmine is as a person and as a friend,” she adds. “Hopefully then, you may see where she’s coming from a bit more and you’ll be sippin’ her tea too.”
The coming-of-age comedy tells the story of four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and newness of high school set in the rough inner city of South Central Los Angeles. Dealing with the danger of getting their friend out of a gang and friends turning into romance, danger is constant.

On My Block was our personal fave show of 2018 and it looks like it was Netflix‘s too!
The streaming service just released info about their viewership data from 2018, and revealed the “Shows We Fell in Binge with This Year” list – where On My Block was #1!
This list was compiled based on the highest average watch time per viewing session (aka: how long viewers watched in a single binge.) The list was compiled using shows released from January 1st to November 28th, 2018, and uses US viewing data only.
Netflix also made sure to note that ranking on this list had no relation to overall viewing.
The second season of On My Block is officially wrapped up, which only means that new episodes are finally on their way!
If you don’t know, the series is a coming of age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high-school set in LA’s South Central neighborhood.

The actress, who stars in the Netflix series, On My Block, was just promoted to a series regular for the upcoming season two, Deadline reports.
If you don’t know Jessica plays Jasmine, who is all confidence and swagger.
“I’ve waited so long for this moment,” Jessica reacted on Twitter to the news. “I’ve never been a series regular before, and to be one on @OnMyBlockTv for flipping @netflix is 🤯😭🙏🏽 thank you! DREAMS COME TRUE YA’LL!”
You might remember Jessica from Liv and Maddie as Willow, however, she also recently starred on ABC’s How To Get Away with Murder.
On My Block season two will kick off filming shortly in Los Angeles.

The 21-year-old actor brought his mom Holly as his date for the evening.
Brett recently opened up about taking on the role of Jamal in the new Netflix show On My Block.
“Playing Jamal was actually kinda difficult. Because it was my first comedy, I didn’t know how to balance the drama and comedy of the show fully yet; thank God we had the direction of Lauren Iungerich — our showrunner, who also directed the first two episodes and the last two episodes — to sort of help us and say, ‘OK guys, this scene needs to be bigger, and this moments needs to be louder, and this moment needs to be more wacky.’ She really helped guide us, and then you know, by episodes four and five we found our footing,” he told The Fader.
“I think the hardest part was just this being my first comedy and also Jamal is pretty hyperactive and he does crazy neurotic things, which sometimes it just feels uncomfortable to do when there’s like 40 dudes around you with cameras and you have to like eat egg salad sandwiches and makes noises, it’s crazy,” he added. “But it was so much fun and I think I played the best character because I got to do all the fun stuff.”

When you hear that one of your favorite shows is coming back for another season, of course you’re going to celebrate – but Jason Genao had the best reaction of all of us after hearing that On My Block was renewed for a second season.
In a new video, Jason, who plays Ruby, jumps around after hearing about the pick up news, before trying to play it cool again, saying, “I knew it.”
“Y’all was wondering what was happening to Ruby, and now you’re gonna find out,” he adds in a message to fans.
