The 27-year-old singer opened up about his bandmate in a recent interview with Capital FM’s Roman Kemp.
“Oh I thought it was great,” Liam said. “I think he’s enjoying himself and he’s free to do as he wishes. And you know I just think that people don’t need to be so bothered about stuff.”
“There’s been a lot more stuff going on this year than whether or not he’s wearing the right clothes in someone else’s mind,” he continued.
Liam also shared that he and Harry didn’t speak to each other for quite some time after One Direction split.
“After the band we didn’t speak for a long time actually and then I remember seeing him, it was actually at a Jingle Bell Ball, backstage for the first time in a long time. He’s still the same guy he always was when we left each other in that dressing room as the band kind of stopped for a little bit,” he said.
If you missed it, Harry got support from another big name about his Vogue cover after a conservative commentator said he was less manly for wearing a dress.
During a chat with Roman Kemp during his Capital Up Close concert, the 27-year-old was asked, “Will you try and get the other 1D boys on a Zoom chat for a Christmas get together?”
“I’d love that, honestly, I would. I was on the phone to Louis [Tomlinson] for a good hour yesterday, and yeah, you know, I think we just need a proper catch up actually,” Liam said. “It was nice to catch up for the ten year anniversary. I’m hoping we’ve got a lot more to come from us.”
“I think we’ve got a lot more to come and it’s tough out there singing these songs on your own, and some of them are really difficult. There’s a reason there was four slash five people there to overtake sometimes,” he continued. “Definitely miss them and yeah, I hope we catch up.”
Liam also performed “Steal My Girl” during the concert. Check it out in the video here…
The 27-year-old “Naught List” singer compared her exit to that of Zayn Malik‘s split from One Direction.
“Someone Zayn‘d out,” Liam said during a TikTok live. “No, no. Let’s be serious about this. It’s always sad at this moment in time when bands get into that sort of thing. Having been there myself, I felt that Zayn left for pretty much the same reason in a weird way.”
“I wish Jesy all the best. I wish the girls all the best for carrying on as a three,” he continued. “It’s a tough time and I do feel for them because everyone is watching in that little fishbowl at the moment and no one really understands what’s going on or how it feels for some people.”
Jesy announced on Monday in a letter to fans that she was leaving Little Mix due to the toll it was taking on her mental health. The rest of the group also released a statement, showing full support for their now former bandmate.
The 26-year-old dished about his bandmates in the new VarietyHitmaker of the Year issue.
“When you look at the history of people coming out of bands and starting solo careers, they feel this need to apologize for being in the band. ‘Don’t worry, everyone, that wasn’t me! Now I get to do what I really want to do.’ But we loved being in the band,” Harry said.
“I think there’s a wont to pit people against each other. And I think it’s never been about that for us. It’s about a next step in evolution. The fact that we’ve all achieved different things outside of the band says a lot about how hard we worked in it,” he continued.
“I learned so much. When we were in the band, I used to try and write with as many different people as I could. I wanted to practice — and I wrote a lot of bad sh-t,” Harry added.
One Direction is continuing their 10th anniversary celebrations!!
The band just launched a 24 hour stream of their Where We Are Tour – Live from San Siro Stadium on their YouTube Channel. You can also watch it right here on JJJ.
The concert footage features all five members – Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan – performing some a bunch of their hits in Milan, Italy, and it will also play bonus DVD content. Be sure to catch it while you can because it will only be available until 3pm UK time on Wednesday (July 29)!
One Direction‘s music has also seen a huge surge in streams and sales since their anniversary date last Thursday (July 23).
Four of the guys’ albums re-entered the charts globally, including four albums in the US Billboard 200. On the anniversary day, there were also 55 million global streams of their music!
1D got a lot of listens on Spotify, as their music was streamed 47 million times, making them the most streamed artist on Spotify across the world.
Zayn Malik, who left the band in March 2015, has not spoken out about the momentous occasion.
Simon Cowell, who helped bring the group together on The X Factor, shared a short but sweet message.
“Today is a very special day. I was lucky enough to meet five guys. Who were so much fun. So talented. It feels like 10 minutes ago. And you made it happen,” he wrote.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the band released a special new video highlighting their career.
The video follows 1D from their early video diaries to releasing their latest single ‘History’, including clips from music videos, live performances and candid behind the scenes video content, as well as their special relationship with Directioners.
One Direction also launched a new website, 10YearsOf1D.com, but fans have crashed the site all day from the demand of them wanting to check it out. As of the time of this posting, the site is still down, and shows the hashtag #DIRECTIONERSBREAKTHEINTERNET on the screen!
Starting tonight (July 25), newly enhanced 4k versions of music videos from each album will be released, starting with “What Makes You Beautiful”.
