RJ Cyler Still Has Hope For A 'Power Rangers' Sequel

RJ Cyler Still Has Hope For A 'Power Rangers' Sequel

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the Power Rangers movies.

While we would love for a second movie to happen, we’re not holding our breaths about it – but RJ Cyler is all for it still.

The actor, who played Billy, the Blue Ranger, revealed in an interview with TV Insider that he’s still waiting for that greenlight. Here’s what he wants for the sequel:

“I want to see the growth Jason has with his pa,” he says. “In our movie they had the father-parent relationship like Mufasa and Simba…I want to see how deep in forgiveness and understanding both of them get with each other. They softened in the last movie, but I want to see how their relationship evolves.”

“I also want to see more of the Trini character because there were a lot of good nuggets of who Trini is and how she could potentially be a part of the LGBT community.”

RJ adds about his own character, “with Billy the possibilities of being a superhero on the autism spectrum. I recently went to Power Morphicon. I never felt so much love from such a big crowd people.”

“Talking to each of them, whether they are on the spectrum or not, Billy related to them on some level. I want to continue to give that. I want to continue to give that person that makes them feel comfortable or find something in common. It gives them freedom of mind to chase what they want to chase.”

TELL JJJ: Are you still hoping for the second movie to happen?

Dacre Montgomery Is Hoping For a 'Good Movie' Out of a Potential 'Power Rangers' Sequel

Dacre Montgomery Is Hoping For a 'Good Movie' Out of a Potential 'Power Rangers' Sequel

It’s been pretty quiet about the possibility of a Power Rangers sequel lately, and even if star Dacre Montgomery knew anything, he couldn’t really tell us.

What he can tell us though, is all about what he’s hoping comes out of a sequel, should it happen — like a female Green Power Ranger.

“For me, it was just the whole idea of there’s three boys. There’s two girls. What if the sixth Ranger was a girl? I don’t know. I think it’s open for interpretation,” he told ScreenRant. “That was just mine and a couple of other cast members’ interpretation.”

However, Dacre knows all about the OG Power Rangers fans and their wants in staying true to canon.

“Tommy is a guy so I’m not wanting to mess with that at the same time as advocating for a girl,” he says. “So we shall see.”

“I’m not saying there’s a sequel. I’m not saying it’s a girl or a boy, but I hope that if it does go in that direction that everyone can be satisfied with it and that it can be conducive to being a good movie, a good sequel.”

We’re still crossing fingers for that sequel!

There Was A Specific Moment That Becky G Truly Felt Like A Power Ranger

There Was A Specific Moment That Becky G Truly Felt Like A Power Ranger

Becky G had a moment, one big moment where she finally felt like a Power Ranger.

The actress/singer, who plays Trini, the yellow ranger in the Power Rangers movie, opened up in the Bluray’s bonus features.

“I’ll never forget going into my last audition when I officially got to meet the casting directors, Dean [Israelite], and they … It was like me and about I want to say three other girls and they fit all of us,” she remembers.

“They took all of our measurements and I remember when the wardrobe woman was measuring me with this measuring tape and I had my eyes closed and I literally was just envisioning myself in the suit.”

Becky adds, “She’s even measuring my head and I was imagining what my head was going to be like and how I was going to feel in the helmet and even down to my fingertips. You know what I mean? And I was just like thinking to myself of the Power Ranger gloves, the Power Ranger suit, like what is it going to look like? I was just picturing it.”

That was it for Becky. Just envisioning herself in the suit was the point she truly felt like a ranger.

“Standing there in front of the mirror, it was like so surreal. It was like I opened my eyes and there I was in the suit.”

Power Rangers is out on Bluray and DVD now.

Will There Be A 'Power Rangers' Sequel?

Will There Be A 'Power Rangers' Sequel?

After the Power Rangers movie hit theaters earlier this year, there was talk that there might be six films in total!

Star RJ Cyler recently revealed what he’d like to see with his character, the Blue Power Ranger, Billy.

“I would definitely like to see him fall in love in some way. That would be really cool,” RJ told ScreenRant.com. “Right now, everyone feels like Billy’s just gonna be this single kid for the rest of his life, and I’m like ‘No, Billy will find love someday, in his own time.’”

And as for that – SPOILER ALERT! – tease that the Green Power Ranger might be making an appearance, RJ said, “Billy still has that defensive little gate up, but he’s already let four other people into it, so it’s like he already broke that barrier. He’s going to welcome Tommy Oliver into the group, but that’s because the group are already on his side.”

“Billy will do whatever the rest of them do,” he added. “Even though it’s not something he might want to do, he always has his friends back. He’s a loyal person, so he’s like ‘Jason, if you’re cool with him, I’m cool with him. Trini, if you’re cool, I’m cool.’ He definitely would make sure that Tommy knew that Jason is our leader.”

'Power Rangers' Director Says Film Would've Done Better at Box Office If The Rating Were Different

'Power Rangers' Director Says Film Would've Done Better at Box Office If The Rating Were Different

If you haven’t heard anything about a Power Rangers sequel, director Dean Isrealite knows why.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the director the newest film says the film’s PG-13 rating is sort of to blame.

The movie earned just over $140 million worldwide, but it could’ve been so much more if the rating was lowered to PG.

“Not only do I think it, but there’s been market studies on it, and the findings have been that if the movie were rated PG – I don’t want to go into the specific numbers – but if the movie had been rated PG, there would have been more traffic,” he says. “I think parents were unsure if they could bring their kids to the movie, which surprised me, because the movie is a tame PG-13.”

He adds, that “a 7-year-old might be scared, but in a good way…They liked that they were scared of Rita, but they still came out of the movie enjoying it, they liked what was going on. I think we really tread that line well, so it was disappointing that parents didn’t know that they could take their kids to it.”

He further hopes that the home release with allow parents to watch and “see that it’s suitable.”

Power Rangers, which starred Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G and Ludi Lin, is out on Bluray now.
