Tyler Blackburn Opens Up About Alex & Michael's Relationship on 'Roswell, New Mexico'

Tyler Blackburn was once part of the best on-screen relationship ever (Haleb on Pretty Little Liars), and now, he’s part of the next great ship on Roswell, New Mexico with Malex – Alex and Michael.

Talking with TVGuide, Tyler and Michael Vlamis both chatted about how the on-screen coupling was important to show and the response from the fans.

“All around the response has been really good, actually,” he shared. “That’s an important thing to have actually these days. You have to have a ship name, and they [the fans] gave it to us after the first episode, so I think we’re doing something right.”

Tyler adds about the couple’s kiss in the latest episode, “It was almost like an unspoken understanding that we were just going to go for it, and I feel like we both understood their dynamic, and there was no other way to play it besides longing and passionate. I mean, that kiss was 10 years in the making, and I think there’s no other way to have that translate…”

He continues, “I think it’s really great that the writers have really chosen for this relationship to be so passionate because it’s not that common to see, especially in mainstream television, to see LGBTQ characters just depicted so human and raw and real.”

Michael added, “I don’t think anybody on the show has ever looked at it as a gay, bisexual or any kind of relationship. It’s just a relationship. It’s just love in its purest state.”

Roswell, New Mexico‘s newest episode airs Tuesday, January 29th on The CW.

FYI: Tyler is pictured below at the premiere of Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw at American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre on Monday night (January 28) in Los Angeles.

This Is Why The Aliens Drink Nail Polish Remover on 'Roswell, New Mexico'

This Is Why The Aliens Drink Nail Polish Remover on 'Roswell, New Mexico'

DO NOT try to drink nail polish remover! That’s only for for aliens in Roswell, New Mexico.

Showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie revealed to EW just why it’s nail polish remover that Max, Isobel and Michael are drinking and not hot sauce, like in the original series.

“We weren’t allowed to use hot sauce,” she explains. “We have the rights to the books, but we don’t have the rights to the original TV show, so anything that we do that references the original show in that way is a homage; it’s a treat for fans.”

So, how did she come up with nail polish remover, of all things?

“I was like, ‘What’s the weirdest thing that’s readily available and I could imagine people drinking?’” Carina adds. “I literally looked around my room and saw nail polish remover and was like, ‘That’s it!’ We have so many bottles of nail polish remover all around our set, we keep saying we should really get a sponsorship, but then also it would be like, ‘Don’t drink it, kids!’”

Roswell, New Mexico airs Tuesdays @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.

Jeanine Mason Dishes On That One Scene Where She's Covered In Ketchup on 'Roswell, New Mexico'

Jeanine Mason Dishes On That One Scene Where She's Covered In Ketchup on 'Roswell, New Mexico'

Jeanine Mason may have been a fan of ketchup once upon a time, but after filming that ketchup scene for Roswell, New Mexico, she isn’t anymore.

Talking with EW after the premiere episode, the 28-year-old actress opened up about that certain scene where she was covered in the condiment.

“It created a gag reflex for me for a while,” she admits. “I’m kind of over it now…but not really! It was so much ketchup!”

After shooting the initial scene, Jeanine recalls having a follow-up scene a week after the initial sequence and getting back into the ketchup-soaked costume was the worst thing.

“I went to put it on and when they pulled it out of the garment bag and it reeked! We put it on me and went upstairs and the crew and Carina [Adly Mackenzie, showrunner] were like, ‘No! We can’t deal with the stink. You’re not going to wear a uniform in the scene!’”

Now, Jeanine is a “mustard fan now.”

Jeanine Mason & Nathan Parsons Talk About Why It Was The Right Time to Reboot 'Roswell'

Jeanine Mason & Nathan Parsons Talk About Why It Was The Right Time to Reboot 'Roswell'

Can you believe that tonight’s the premiere of Roswell, New Mexico?!

Stars Jeanine Mason and Nathan Parsons chatted about why right now was the best time to reboot the original WB show, with a twist.

“It changes the dynamic a bit [from the original],” Nathan shared with NY Post. “We’re no longer in high school. We’ve jumped 10 years ahead. The show carries the same title and basis, but I think this is pretty original in its storytelling.”

He adds, “There’s this alien aspect but [Max is] also a cop. So it’s this dichotomy between this very normal life as a deputy in the sheriff department … who also has secret powers. That’s fun to play with.”

“It’s the right property to revisit,” Jeanine says. “I don’t think that’s always the case [with reboots] but this one in particular really made sense.”

As for taking on the role of Liz, she adds that it was “exciting to me to get to revisit this property right now. There’s this line … where a character is accusing Liz of being combative, and she says, ‘I’m a Mexican-American woman in 2018. I engage in combat just by getting out of bed in the morning.’ It made me laugh and hurt my heart because it rang so true.”

Roswell, New Mexico premieres TONIGHT, January 15th @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.

Why Nathan Parsons Was The Perfect Actor To Play Max in 'Roswell, New Mexico'

Why Nathan Parsons Was The Perfect Actor To Play Max in 'Roswell, New Mexico'

Nathan Parsons wasn’t supposed to actually be Max in Roswell, New Mexico…at least, not until he stepped in to read lines during auditions.

Showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie revealed to EW that Nathan was actually supposed to be Michael, but that all changed fast.

“He was very different from the Max that I imagined, to be honest,” she shared. “I saw Max as someone with purity and a wide-eyed, idealistic innocence to them, and Nathan Parsons, God love him, has seen some sh—.”

She continues, “It took on a different tone, but I actually think it kind of saves the show. Frankly, I don’t think that we would’ve gotten picked up if had we not made Max this layered, interesting, and darker character. He feels like he has secrets from the minute you meet him, and I like that.”

Even Jeanine Mason, who plays Liz in the series, couldn’t see anyone else as Max.

“From the second we bumped into each other outside of the building at WB, I just knew immediately,” she shared. “Honestly, maybe it’s just because of my dance background, but the physical life is very important to me, and just standing across from him felt like it worked.”

Roswell, New Mexico premieres TOMORROW, January 15th on The CW.
