Alex Naddour Wins Bronze Medal For Team USA on Pommel Horse In Rio!

Alex Naddour is all smiles next to Team GB’s Max Whitlock and Louis Smith after winning the bronze medal on the pommel horse during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Sunday (August 14) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 25-year-old gymnast broke Team USA’s medal drought for these Games and the Pommel horse, where a medal hasn’t been won since 1984.

“The tears were about my family, what they’ve sacrificed to put me at the top,” Alex shared with press after the medal ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Sam Mikulak and Jake Dalton competed on the floor exercise event, but failed to medal. Max also won a gold medal in that competition as well.

Brazil’s Diego Hypolito and Arthur Mariano (aka Arthur Nory, Simone Biles‘ “Brazilian boyfriend”) won silver and bronze in the floor final.

Sam Mikulak & Chris Brooks Reflect on All-Around Competition After Rio & Preview What's Next

Earlier this week, Team USA’s Sam Mikulak and Chris Brooks placed 7th and 14th, respectively, in the Men’s Gymnastics All-Around Competition during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

In a new interview, the two gymnasts, 23 and 29, open up about the struggles they faced during the competition, rumors of retiring and more. Check it:

Chris on the all-around: “In the highest pressure situation possible … to go out there and hit sets and basically just show people that I deserve to be out on the floor. I’ve been an alternate for a long time and to get that opportunity is just pretty special to me. I’m glad I could come through it.”

Sam on having no regrets: “I wouldn’t change any way that I’ve prepared for this competition. I put my heart and soul into it every single day. I hit all of my routines. I have no regrets.”

Chris on what he would do over again: “Hitting high bar and sticking was a phenomenal feeling to say the least…Just a little disappointed I couldn’t have hit a little better pommel horse routine, but I stayed on, so that’s good.”

Sam on his routines: “This is the epitome of the sport, and when you can go and put on a solid performance that lives up to your expectations of what you should be capable of doing, you can be nothing but happy about it.”

While Chris has finished his Olympic competition, he won’t be retiring. We’ll see Sam again this weekend during the high bar and floor exercise individual finals.

Sam Mikulak & USA Men's Gymnastics Team Reflect on Samir Ait Said's Injury At Olympics

Sam Mikulak and Alex Naddour show off their pommel horse skills in these shots from the Artistic Gymnastics Men’s Team Qualification during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Saturday (August 6) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Along with teammates Danell Leyva, Jake Dalton, and team captain Chris Brooks placed 2nd over all as a team for the day, with China in first place, Japan in third and Great Britain in fourth.

“It’s a horrible thing to happen, but we stayed in our bubble,” Sam shared, reflecting on French gymnast Samir Ait Said breaking his leg on the vault. “We made sure that we focused on each other. We stayed in our bubble. If someone hits, cheer them on; if someone misses, pick them up. We continued to do that.”

Danell added, “Even if we’re on different teams from different countries, we’re all friends, we all know each other. I’ve known Samir since I was 14. It sucks, it really does. But we have a job to do, so you have to forget about it.”

After Day 1 of qualification, here’s the lineup: Sam - Floor, Parallel Bars, Vault, Pommel Horse, High Bar, All-Around; Jake - Rings, Vault, Floor; Chris - Rings, Parallel Bars, High Bar, All-Around; Alex - Pommel Horse, Floor, Vault, Rings; and Danell – Pommel Horse, Parallel bars and High Bar.
