Freeform Gives Fans Brand New, Terrifying Promo For Mermaid Drama 'Siren'

Freeform just dropped a brand new poster and terrifying new teaser for Siren.

The upcoming series centers on the coastal town of Bristol Cove, which is known for its legend of once being home to mermaids.

The town is turned upside down when a mysterious girl (Eline Powell) appears and begins wreaking havoc upon the small fishing town.

Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land, and are there more like her out there?

Siren will premiere on International Mermaid Day, March 29th @ 8PM ET/PT.

Freeform's 'Siren' is Not 'The Little Mermaid': 'It's Scary'

The first time we heard about Freeform’s upcoming Siren, we were excited about the mermaid aspect — and then, we realized that it’s nothing at all like The Little Mermaid — or maybe it kind of is, the original fairytale, that is.

Stars Eline Powell and Alex Roe spoke to ET about their upcoming drama and they both shared that it’s not anything like the musical animated film you picture — it’s scary.

“It is scary, but I think, you know, a great white is scary yet majestic… I’m a bit in that category I think,” Alex teased.

Eline adds, “It is a very different side [of mermaids], but only because it’s looking a little bit more at it realistically in the sense that they are predators that have to survive in the ocean…there’s a certain level, for lack of a better word, badass-ness that has to come with that.

As for her mermaid character, Ryn, she’s “a little bit more animalistic than the Little Mermaid but that doesn’t necessarily mean she isn’t as lovely.”

Siren premieres in March on Freeform.

Alex Roe Opens Up About New Show 'Siren' & Jumping Into Frigid Water For Filming

Alex Roe Opens Up About New Show 'Siren' & Jumping Into Frigid Water For Filming

We were all introduced to Alex Roe when he starred in The Fifth Wave movie with Chloe Moretz, and now, we’ll get to see him on our television screens in Freeform’s upcoming mermaid thriller drama, Siren.

Speaking with Collider, the British-born actor revealed that he’s the type of actor who loves to do his own stunts, and sometimes those have him in really, really cold water.

“We’re shooting in Canada, so the water there, during the winter, is really, really cold,” Alex explained. “I’ve had to jump in the water a few times, and they have a stunt double ready, but I’m always like, ‘No, it’s gonna be me. I’m gonna do it.’”

“It’s actually really refreshing to jump into really cold water,” he added. “I’m lucky that people rush over to me with towels.”

Alex also revealed that a lot of the scenes in Siren will be underwater.

“During the season, there’s actually quite a lot of underwater stuff, which is exciting,” he shared. “I’ve learned how to hold my breath for four and a half minutes for this. I’m really proud of that fact.”

Siren will premiere on Thursday, March 29th on Freeform.
