Taron Egerton as a leading man in a musical movie? SIGN US UP!
The Sing star dished in a recent interview that he’d love to star in a movie musical one day (and we hope it’s soon!).
“I’d done it before,” he shared about singing in the animated movie, Sing. “I’d done, like, amateur musicals and I’d done choral singing at school, but I think it was at [drama school] Rada where I first had that validation and someone actually saying, ‘You know, you can sing’. And I go, ‘OK, I can sing!’ That was the first time I remember feeling that way.”
Taron added that he even got the lead in a school musical and definitely enjoyed it.
“Now I’m desperate to do a musical, and I’m trying to find one,” Taron confessed. Or find someone who will let me do one. I mean, it’s about someone presenting me with an opportunity really, but I’d bite their hand off if they did. I think it’s about time we had some.”
We do need more, especially after the brilliance of La La Land!
Illumination also just announced that a sequel to Sing – Sing 2 — will be coming on Christmas Day 2020.
Anyone else just completely re-fall in love with Taron Egerton when they went to see Sing?
The English actor, who you might know from Kingsman: Secret Service or Eddie The Eagle, stars as Johnny, the gorilla in the new animated film — and his voice is amazing!

One of the movies we can’t wait to see this holiday season is definitely Sing and we are in love with the final trailer that was just released!
The movie features a star-studded cast, including singer Tori Kelly and Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton, and over 85 hit songs that will have you singing throughout the movie.
The animated flick is set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals and follows the world’s greatest singing competition, launched to restore a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times.
Tori Kelly and Taron Egerton hang out with their character counterparts in these new pics from Sing!
“I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a bit of Meena inside,” Tori shared about her character. “She’s that timid kid who desperately wants to share her gifts with the world, but is always second guessing herself. As an artist, I went to that place of insecurity inside teenage Tori to find my inner Meena. Then you take a deep breath, shake off the nerves and just let the music take over.”
Taron added about Johnny, “I think that one of the biggest fears we all have is that we will disappoint our parents. All you want is their acceptance, but as you come into your own, you begin to realize that your dreams don’t always intersect with theirs. Johnny’s relationship with his father epitomizes this. He only needs Big Daddy to listen, to actually hear him, just once. If that happens, Johnny believes he can become his own man and really soar.”
Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.
Tori Kelly goes for a classic look while arriving at the Sing premiere during the 2016 Toronto Film Festival held at Princess of Wales Theatre on Sunday (September 11) in Toronto, Canada.
The 23-year-old singer stars in the animated feature with Taron Egerton who was also at the premiere.

Buster is an eternal optimistokay, maybe a bit of a scoundrelwho loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it.
