The two have worked on songs such as “Stitches”, “Mercy”, “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”, and his newest single “In My Blood”.
“She’s on every single song,” he said. “I think out of all people, there’s this other connection. There’s this third party that’s stepping in when we make music together. And it’s love.”
Shawn also recalled the first time he used the correct pronouns with Teddy, who announced her transition late last year, and the “pure joy, pure happiness” look on her face. Watch below!
Teddy Geiger announced that they are in the process of transitioning last week, and now longtime friend and colleague Shawn Mendes is speaking out with words of love and support.
“[People should] support and love and be there however you can, because it kind of is a hard thing to figure out how to support,” the 19-year-old “Treat You Better” singer told Billboard, “and remember they’re your friend. There’s no difference.”
Shawn emphasized that in times of transition friends and family should do “anything we can” to support them.
“Be a friend first off and that’s kind of all we’re thinking of,” he continued.
We’re glad Teddy has such a strong support system during this time of change.
“I am transitioning,” Teddy wrote. “I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process. I feel like the next step is to tell all y’all. So here goes. Love it or hate it this is who I have been for a looooong time.”
