Marie Avgeropoulos Opens Up About 'The 100' Ending: 'It's Bittersweet'

The 100 is signing off the air with season seven, and one star is opening up about the iconic series saying goodbye.

Marie Avgeropoulos, who plays Octavia on The CW show, opened up in a new interview about the show ending.

“It’s bittersweet,” she shared. “It’s like when you graduate high school or graduate college or something that you really loved, but you’re okay with saying goodbye to. It’s given me a ton of opportunities. I’m incredibly grateful. It’s changed my life. There’s no doubt about that.”

Marie added that, “I’ve become very attached to Octavia and I’ve become very attached to the actors that I have worked with for seven years. It’s going to suck to say goodbye. There’s definitely going to be tears, but it’s time to move on for sure. But that doesn’t take away the gratefulness. We’ve all grown together as people and actors and it’s going to definitely be a challenging day to say goodbye.”

The 100 is currently filming its’ final season in Vancouver.

Adult Hope Shelby Flannery To Return To 'The 100' As Series Regular For Final Season

Adult Hope Shelby Flannery To Return To 'The 100' As Series Regular For Final Season

Shelby Flannery has been promoted to series regular on The 100!

The actress, who appeared in the season six finale as the adult Hope Diyoza, will have an even bigger role in the show’s final season, TV Line reports.

“I haven’t tooted or tweeted about this yet cause like everyone else I’m not confident I know the line between self aggrandizement and self promotion. Or if self promotion is even totally necessary. Which maybe it isn’t,” Shelby wrote on Instagram. “Maybe by simply doing what gets you excited and doing it with vigor and love, your work spreads wide beyond what any instagram blurb will touch. But it’s 2019 and looks like these questions are gunna continue being relevant. Social media is confusing. And it calls for responsibility and respect. And I also realize that all this may sound ostentatious and besides any real point. Because it is.”

“The real point is: Hey guys, I’m on a sci fi where I pretend to be a proper badass. It’s called The 100, and my character develops throughout season 7. It’ll be twisted and wicked. The even realer point is: My cup is filled with gratitude. Always stand behind what you want with sovereignty and without shame. But you know that! Have a nice day,” she added.

Did you see the season six finale of The 100 last night?

In the episode, a grown up Hope stabbed and killed Octavia! Or, wait, did she?

Showrunner Jason Rothenberg chatted with EW following the finale and revealed whether Octavia, who has been played by Marie Avgeorpoulos since the first season, is really dead.

“I don’t want to tease anything about her fate other than we will explain what happens to her,” he shared, referring to the just announced final season. “Whether she’s alive or dead, Marie’s amazing and you can safely say we have not seen the last of her.”

Jason added, “But whether or not she’s dead and we tell her story in flashback or whether or not we see her again in the present, that’s something we have to wait and see.”

Season seven will also bring more of the Anomaly, too.

“We’re going to be seeing the anomaly for real. I can’t talk about the specifics of the anomaly right now other than to say that we will be exploring the f— out of it in season 7,” he shared. “We’re going to go there often and early, we’re going to go through it and come back from it, and we’re going to explain all the time inconsistencies or the fact that time is behaving badly.”

“…They’re all going to hopefully be explained. But we wrote ourselves into some interesting corners with that last scene and we spent a lot of time in the writers’ room trying to write ourselves out of it, which is what we do every year. Because I don’t always know exactly what the next story is! But we always are teeing up the next story.”

'The 100' Creator Opens Up About Getting To End The Show On Their Terms

Jason Rothenberg, the creator of The 100, is dishing some info on the final season of the show!

In a new interview, he opens up about getting to end the show on their own terms, and how it will be their own version of a happy ending.

“I definitely can safely say that we’re trying to say something more with season 7,” Jason told EW. “The ending of a story always is the point of the story, the moral of the story. We have yet to reveal the moral of the story, but it will be revealed in season 7. And it won’t be ‘People are horrible, we all suck, we’re willing to kill everyone and everything and do anything to survive.’ There’s a higher purpose.”

“A happy ending? I’d say that’s probably, well… it’ll be our version of a happy ending, how about that?” he added.

“There were a few seasons in the middle of the run where we didn’t know [the plan for the show],” Jason continued. “We legitimately were on the bubble and were always trying to engineer something that could possibly be a series ender and a season ender, you know? I have for a while known thematically and like you say, in a general way, what I want the ending to be. I knew what I wanted it to feel like, I knew what I wanted it to say. But it was about getting some assurances from the network that I could actually tell the story when I wanted to.”

“To their great benefit since they are putting the quality of the show ahead of making more episodes and making more money, shockingly, it’s a decision that really should be applauded for both the studio and especially Mark Pedowitz and the network side, we finally get to do it,” he said. “It’s much easier knowing. We rolled the dice this year that we were going to get to do it, and fortunately in their wisdom and generosity, they’re letting us do it. Had they said no and wanted a season 8, I was going to be out of here anyway. Getting to end on our terms, it’s a rare thing, and I’m grateful for it for sure.”

In case you missed it, it was announced over the weekend that The 100 would be ending after the show’s seventh season next year.
