WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD — DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!
The Fosters‘ spring finale came with a lot of happy smiles, and a lot of crying — at least, that’s what happened if you were watching with us.
The two-hour finale not only featured Brandon and Callie’s graduation (yep, they made it), but also Mariana, Jesus and Jude’s, too.
Featuring a lot of flash forwards, we find out that Callie got into UCSD’s law program, while Brandon was set to attend a film scoring program in Los Angeles; Mariana and Emma were headed to MIT and Jesus was off to community college.
It was also during Jude’s graduation that Brandon and new girlfriend Eliza, announced their engagement.
Speaking with TVLine after the finale, EP Joanna Johnson opened up about how these episodes actually could have been the series finale.
“We originally conceived that as the series finale, and then the network said, ‘Hey, we want to order some more episodes,’” she recalled. “So we had to figure out what could be another finale.”
The upcoming three-part episode will officially serve as the series finale.
“They wanted to give The Fosters a really important, special farewell, not just one episode,” Joanna adds. “So we came up with this three-night special, and we were happy to do it.”
The Fosters will return in June on Freeform.
