'The Fosters' Spring Finale Recap: Everyone [Spoiler]!

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD — DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!

The Fosters‘ spring finale came with a lot of happy smiles, and a lot of crying — at least, that’s what happened if you were watching with us.

The two-hour finale not only featured Brandon and Callie’s graduation (yep, they made it), but also Mariana, Jesus and Jude’s, too.

Featuring a lot of flash forwards, we find out that Callie got into UCSD’s law program, while Brandon was set to attend a film scoring program in Los Angeles; Mariana and Emma were headed to MIT and Jesus was off to community college.

It was also during Jude’s graduation that Brandon and new girlfriend Eliza, announced their engagement.

Speaking with TVLine after the finale, EP Joanna Johnson opened up about how these episodes actually could have been the series finale.

“We originally conceived that as the series finale, and then the network said, ‘Hey, we want to order some more episodes,’” she recalled. “So we had to figure out what could be another finale.”

The upcoming three-part episode will officially serve as the series finale.

“They wanted to give The Fosters a really important, special farewell, not just one episode,” Joanna adds. “So we came up with this three-night special, and we were happy to do it.”

The Fosters will return in June on Freeform.

Cierra Ramirez Thanks Fans After 'The Fosters' Spring Finale: 'I'm So Happy That We Have You'

Cierra Ramirez is not helping us at all — we’re still crying hard after reading her sweet goodbye note she wrote on Instagram after the spring finale of The Fosters.

“Over the moon that you’ve welcomed our family into your homes for the past 5 years,” the 22-year-old actress starts. “The impact that this show has had on me & so many others is something I could never dream of or imagine. I will forever hold the lessons I’ve learned from The Fosters dear to my heart.”

Cierra continues, “Thank you @freeform @therealpeterpaige @thebradleybredeweg @joannajohnson @greggugliotta @chrissacani + our incredibly talented writing team & crew for putting their blood, sweat & tears + countless hours into creating something so genuine and groundbreaking. It’s been a privilege to be your Mariana.

“To the amazing cast….you’re my family. I’ve learned so much from y’all & really think I am the person I am today because of you. I will forever cherish the love and laughter we’ve shared over the years….but it sucks for you, because there’s no getting rid of me!

“& Last but most certainly not least….our beautiful fans. Thank you for sticking with us & for your constant unconditional love. All of your edits, tweets & pages have never gone unnoticed. The most rewarding thing about being apart of this for me, was seeing the influence this show has had on all of you.

Meg DeLacy Opens Up About Brandon & Grace's Once in a Lifetime Love Story on 'The Fosters'

Meg DeLacy Opens Up About Brandon & Grace's Once in a Lifetime Love Story on 'The Fosters'

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD — DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!

Last night’s spring finale of The Fosters truly was a heartbreaker — as Grace died in Brandon’s arms.

Meg DeLacy recently opened up about the “rough” episode where the couple came to terms with what was ahead for them.

“[It was] probably some of my most depressing days to be honest,” Meg shared with HollywoodLife. “It has been so real for my co-star [David Lambert] and me playing Brandon and Grace for the last year, and it all came together that last week.”

Meg continued that the episode did focus on their “Romeo and Juliet-esq situation”.

“She let her mind take over her heart before realizing it, and she finally put herself in his shoes,” she says. “Even that would have been hard for Brandon Foster to deal with…it was a heartbreaking reality for them.”

However, Meg knows, and all the fans know, that Grace and Brandon’s love story will live on.

“They really make each other better,” she adds. “Together they learned how to love, play music, and be honest. Sure they had their hardships, but they managed to grow from them together and independently. They also found that true love of a lifetime.”

If you missed it, listen to Grace and Brandon’s “theme song”, “Trapeze”, performed by Meg below!

'The Fosters' 100th Episode Will Mirror the Pilot Episode with Brandon & Callie

'The Fosters' 100th Episode Will Mirror the Pilot Episode with Brandon & Callie

The Fosters is giving us throwback feelings tonight with the spring finale.

The longtime running series will be mirroring the pilot episode with Brandon and Callie, EP Joanna Johnson shared with TVLine.

“Brandon and Callie find themselves AWOL,” she teases. “We wanted to mirror the pilot episode, where Callie ran off to find Jude, and Brandon was supposed to be at a piano competition, but he sort of gave that up to go with her.”

This time around “it’s Callie who goes to get him so that he won’t miss a very important moment in his life.”

Here’s what’s happening in the two-hour finale tonight: Brandon and Grace go on a road trip and discover a lot about each other, while Mariana and Emma vie for a competitive internship. Stef and Lena also go on a couples retreat to reconnect, which their kids insisted upon.

In the final hour, graduation day is here for Callie and Brandon, but after some shocking news, the family wonders whether they will make it to the ceremony.

The Fosters airs TONIGHT @ 8PM ET/PT on Freeform.

'The Fosters' Stars Preview 'Emotional' & 'Heartfelt' Spring Finale

'The Fosters' Stars Preview 'Emotional' & 'Heartfelt' Spring Finale

Raise your hand if you’re not ready in any way for the spring finale of The Fosters tomorrow — we’re not either.

Stars Maia Mitchell, David Lambert, Hayden Byerly, Noah Centineo, and Cierra Ramirez all chatted with TVLine about the double episode tomorrow night, which will be the last before the final three in June.

“It’s not an explosive episode like a lot of [our] finales and premieres,” Maia shared, preparing fans for what’s coming. However, the double episode will “up the ante a little bit on the emotional side.”

David says the 100th episode “is it’s a very heartfelt episode. It’s not necessarily an ambitious episode. It’s not a big event. There’s no party. But there are a lot of really, really great scenes.”

“Overall, you get a sense of where people are starting to go, especially the kids,” he continues. “You’re starting to see their trajectory maybe beyond high school, where they’re going to end up. We’re dropping a lot of hints as to their interests.”

The Fosters will air TOMORROW, Tuesday, March 13th @ 8PM ET/PT on Freeform.
