Spike Cancels 'The Shannara Chronicles'; No Season Three Planned

We are sad to report that The Shannara Chronicles has been cancelled.

The two-season show, which hopped over from MTV to Spike this past season, will not be renewed for a third, TVGuide reports.

“Maybe [production company Sonar Entertainment] is going to take it somewhere else,” Paramount Network boss Kevin Kay shared with the site at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “For us, we passed on the future of that.”

The Shannara Chronicles, starring Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero and Manu Bennett, centered on heroes in the Four Lands as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the universe.

'Shannara Chronicles' Ivana Baquero Wants A Third Season of The Show For This Reason

'Shannara Chronicles' Ivana Baquero Wants A Third Season of The Show For This Reason

The Shannara Chronicles will air its’ final two episodes of the second season later tonight — and to be honest, we are just not ready for it to end!

It seems that the second season of the fantasy television series just started and it looks like Ivana Baquero, who plays Eretria, is starting a campaign for a third season with the fans of the show.

Speaking with TV Junkies recently, Ivana opened up about how Eretria’s sexuality wants her to keep telling these stories.

“The show has other things like many more diverse characters, and amazing female characters,” she shared. “To be in a show that has all those things is so unique and it makes me want for it to have a third season so, so bad, because I feel it covers so many things, and so many people can feel connected to it.”

We are so game for a third season…and a fourth and fifth, too. Anyone else?

Stay tuned for a sneak peek of tonight’s season finale!

Shannara Chronicles' Desmond Chaim Is That Guy Who Will Quote The Books If You Ask Him To

The Shannara ChroniclesDesmond Chaim might be the big bad on the show, but if you need to know anything about him, he’s actually a big nerd.

In fact, he admits to “being an Elven ranger or some derivative in almost every MMORPG you could name,” in a recent interview.

And if you have a question about any of the books that inspired the Spike show, you go to him.

“I think I’m probably well known in the Shannara crew and cast for obnoxiously pointing out wherever possible that I’ve read the books,” Desmond shared. “‘Hey, what’re you reading? New Zealand Travel guide? Cool, let me tell you about another book. Called Sword of Shannara. That I’ve read.’”

He adds that he still proudly has them on his bookshelf today.

Tonight, we’ll have two all-new back-to-back episodes on Spike. In “Warlock”, Bandon and his followers race to resurrect the Warlock Lord while Mareth must risk everything before it’s too late.

Then in “Amberle”, Wil must confront his past and the bond between Allanon and Mareth continues to grow.

The Shannara Chronicles airs TONIGHT @ 9PM ET/PT on Spike.

Ivana Baquero Feels 'Lucky' To Be Part of a Positive LGBTQ Story on 'Shannara Chronicles'

Ivana Baquero Feels 'Lucky' To Be Part of a Positive LGBTQ Story on 'Shannara Chronicles'

There aren’t that many shows where you really do see a positive, and still standing LGBTQ relationship at the moment — but The Shannara Chronicles is doing it.

Star Ivana Baquero, who plays Eretria on the Spike series, calls herself one of the lucky ones to be able to be a part of the conversation.

“I honestly think it’s so awesome,” she shared in a recent interview with TV Junkies. “I had so many people approach me in Season 1, in fact, about the Amberle and Eretria relationship, and be so passionate about it, and tell me how they felt represented, and how there’s not much of it on TV.”

Ivana says that Eretria’s relationship with Lyria actually came as a surprise to her for season two.

“Season 2 isn’t based on the books, it’s the gap between the second and third books,” she reminded fans. “When I found out she had this relationship I felt so lucky to be able to portray that.”

Ivana continues, “People may like it more or less, or they may feel more or less connected to the story, but we truly did it with so much love, and we hope that they like it.”

“…The show has other things like many more diverse characters, and amazing female characters. To be in a show that has all those things is so unique and it makes me want for it to have a third season so, so bad, because I feel it covers so many things, and so many people can feel connected to it. I feel so, so lucky.”

The Shannara Chronicles airs Wednesdays on Spike.
