Joshua Bassett holds up his trophy after winning at night one of the 2023 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards on Saturday night (December 16) held at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles.
The 22-year-old former High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star was nominated for Outstanding Original Song for a Children’s or Young Teen Program for his song “Finally Free,” and he won!

After the win, HSMTMTS creator Tim Federle shared the exciting news on his Instagram.
“Brand-new Emmy-winning songwriters @dougrockwell @joshuatbassett and @tovaonmars for @highschoolmusicalseries! Woohoo! ❤️🎭,” he captioned a photo of the winning trio.
The next night, Joshua‘s co-star Dara Renee and Tim stepped out at the awards ceremony’s second night.
At this year’s Children’s and Family Emmys, HSMTMTS was also nominated for Young Teen Series, a second nom for Original Song for “You Never Know,” Casting For a Live Action Program, Costume Design/Styling, and Choreography. Unfortunately, they did not win any other awards.
