Trent Harmon opens up about his emerging music career in the August 2016 issue of NKD mag.
The 25-year-old final American Idol champion dished about his audition, making an investment and more. Check it:
On winning the last American Idol season: “Music is such an investment – your time, your money, the lack of money, your family. You put everything on hold, and it’s an investment with no guarantee of a return, and that’s like the number one rule that everyone tells you going into it. When they called my name, it was like, a big return on that investment.”
On his first single, “There’s A Girl’: “It was actually a really sad story. We tried to write that, and we were just having so much fun that it wouldn’t stay sad. We flipped it, and we wrote a happy story….I think we all have [done something stupid for someone]. You just do it. Why, we don’t really know.”
On the Idol auditions: “I don’t care what anybody says, you can interview the Top 7000 from Idol or whatever, but at some point, everyone wanted to quit…I wasn’t upset or anything, I just decided that I didn’t want to do this anymore. I would have to consciously remind myself, ‘Okay, everything you’re doing is on borrowed time. You can quit, but as long as you still have the opportunity, make the most of it.’ When it’s over, technically you’ll get what you want.”

Trent Harmon just dropped his debut single, “There’s A Girl”!
The 25-year-old final American Idol winner teamed up with director Roman White for the video, which chronicles his wild adventure to find his “Girl.” Trent wrote the track with Laura Veltz and Jimmy Robbins.
“‘There’s A Girl’ is my favorite song I’ve written to date,” Trent shared about the track. “I came in with this almost sad story about how I actually drove hundreds of miles only to find out I’d lost my chance with her. We crafted a positive outcome because it’s truly crazy what a man will do when he’s in love.”
