Zendaya is set to receive a special honor at the upcoming 2021 Critics Choice Awards!

The 24-year-old actress will be awarded the SeeHer Award, which will be presented by her Malcolm & Marie co-star John David Washington.

The SeeHer Award recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the SeeHer movement, to push boundaries, defy stereotypes and acknowledge the importance of authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment landscape.

SeeHer is the leading global movement for accurate portrayals of women and girls in media. Led by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), SeeHer is a collective of leading marketers, media organizations and industry influencers committed to creating advertising and media content that portrays women and girls as they truly are.

Past recipients of the award include Kristen Bell, Viola Davis, Claire Foy, and Gal Gadot.

“We are so proud to be a part of the Critics Choice Awards, and celebrating our fifth SeeHer Award,” Nadine Karp McHugh, President, SeeHer, said in a statement. “We are delighted to be presenting the award to Zendaya, who is such a strong representation of what it means to be a woman in 2021. One of the busiest rising stars in Hollywood – with a generation of Disney Channel fans, Marvel devotees and Euphoria evangelists – she is a role model and leading voice of her generation. From being the youngest actress to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series to using her platform to advocate for Black women in Hollywood, she is showing the next generation that you are never too young to use your voice to make a difference. Inspiring girls everywhere to see themselves in their full potential, Zendaya represents everything SeeHer is.”

Zendaya is also nominated for Best Actress in a Movie at the ceremony. See the full list of nominations here!

Zendaya & Timothee Chalamet Hosted Dance Parties On 'Dune' Set

Zendaya & Timothee Chalamet Hosted Dance Parties On 'Dune' Set

Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet were truly the life of the party while working on Dune together!

In a new interview on A Late Show, the 24-year-old actress revealed that they would have dance parties on set.

“I mean everyone is so lovely. I mean, Timothee has become one of my closest friends, and he’s lovely and so talented,” Zendaya gushed to host Stephen Colbert. “I think my favorite part was we would have these dance parties in my room, where I would leave the door open, Timothee would come in with his little speaker, and then everybody would start coming in. Then we would just start dancing.”

She also admitted that Javier Bardem has some good dance moves.

“Listen, he peaked in and he was groovin’. I was like, okay Javier. He had the moves. I was very impressed,” she said.

The duo have become one of our favorite new pair of friends, and back in October, Zendaya opened up about how fun we was to be around.

They even shared super sweet messages for each other’s birthdays this past year!

Dune‘s release date has been pushed back quite a few times, and is currently set to be released in October 2021. Check out the trailer here.

Zendaya Opens Up About Embracing Her Disney Past

Zendaya Opens Up About Embracing Her Disney Past

Zendaya isn’t trying to erase her Disney past at all, in fact, she embraces it!

The 24-year-old actress recently opened up to Carey Mulligan in an “Actors on Actors” interview with Variety.

“The thing is, I am [a Disney kid]. And to a degree, I am grateful for that,” Zendaya shared. “That’s where I started, and I learned so much from that experience. It’s just kind of been this slow progression, and I am happy that it’s all been to prove it to myself and not to anybody else, you know? I embrace it a little bit. It’s part of my heritage to a degree.”

She also said that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson found her while she was still on the Disney Channel.

“Before Euphoria, technically I was still on Disney Channel. He must have seen something in me,” she added. “He said that I was on a mood board for Rue. And I was like, ‘No, you didn’t!’ I think there’s something to that kind of faith, and already seeing something in me that I maybe knew was there, but I didn’t ever have the opportunity to explore.”

“I’ve always felt that I could bring things to the table: that I could be creative and free to try things, and put out bad ideas. Because of the Disney kid thing, I get scared of that kind of thing,” Zendaya continued.

For a refresher, Zendaya starred on the Disney Channel in shows Shake It Up and KC Undercover, as well as DCOMs Zapped and Frenemies. She also appeared as a guest star on A.N.T. Farm and Good Luck Charlie, as well as voicing characters in Pixie Hollow Games and Super Buddies. She was also signed to Disney’s record label, Hollywood Records.

Though Zendaya‘s Disney Channel days are behind her, she still works with Disney as they own Marvel, who partners with Sony on the current Spider-Man movies that Zendaya stars in.

Zendaya Gushes Over John David Washington In 'Malcolm & Marie'

Zendaya Gushes Over John David Washington In 'Malcolm & Marie'

Zendaya is opening up about her co-star John David Washington!

The 24-year-old dished on his performance in their upcoming movie Malcolm & Marie, where they play a couple.

“Now, becoming very close with JD, and knowing the kind of lovely, kind, calm person that he is—I’m just blown away with his work,” she told WSJ. Magazine. “It’s a f—ing performance, because that is not the John David I have grown to know. I don’t know where he went and how he did it, but it was incredible to watch. And I definitely think it helped me as an actress. It challenged me to work a little bit harder to match where he was.”

“When [Malcolm & Marie] came along, it felt a bit like this might be the last thing I’ll ever get to do,” John David shared. “I went to that dramatic [place]. I was like, this is survival, but hey, if this is the last thing I get to do, I truly believe in it. I went from the biggest-budget film in my career [Tenet] to the lowest-budget film within a six-month time frame.”

“I don’t like confrontation. I think that the beauty about the relationship is, at least for Malcolm, some of his best material is probably coming from the confrontation, from their exchanges. But no, personally, I would not operate the same way Malcolm does in any kind of relationship,” he added.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the trailer for Malcolm & Marie, which was fully created during quarantine. The movie will be out on February 5th on Netflix!
