Ashley Wagner Has 'No Regrets' About Her Comments of Being Left Off Olympic Team

Over the weekend, Ashley Wagner revealed how she really felt about not making the Olympic team for the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics — comments she still stands behind.

The 26-year-old figure skater has no regrets about criticizing the judges who left her name off the roster, instead putting her as the first alternate.

“I think I have a lot of experience in this sport, and I know what I consistently skate like and where I usually fall,” Ashley shared on Today during her interview. “So I’m allowed to question things, but question things only in relation to myself.”

However, even though she stands by her comments, she’s still excited to root on the three who were named to the team — Bradie Tennell, Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen.

“I think that these girls earned their spots, and I am so excited to be able to kind of take a step back and cheer on Team USA. I am so passionate about this sport, and I’ve been in the position where people have tried to take away my legitimacy for being on a team, and I would never want to do that to another athlete.”

Ashley adds, “I mean, what you see is what you get with me. I pride myself on being honest and open, and I think that at the end of the day, based on the selection criteria, they absolutely made the right call with this team. Those ladies are getting ready to go to the Olympics, and I support them entirely.”
