Katie Stevens Opens Up About Anxiety Struggles in Powerful Instagram

Katie Stevens is just one of the many people on the planet who suffer from anxiety.

Because May is mental health awareness month, The Bold Type actress opened up a powerful conversation on her Instagram Stories early this morning (May 22) with her fans about mental health.

“Over the past few years, my anxiety has gotten worse as I’ve gotten further into my career,” Katie writes honestly. “I worry about everything, am constantly afraid of the worse case scenarios happening to me, I cry when I’m overwhelmed, cry on planes, cry even when nothing is really wrong. It’s alsos caused me to not be able to acclimate to their new lifestyle of being ‘known’ by people.”

“Everyone’s state of mental health is different,” she adds, “I’m sure some people read this and think ‘oh, woe is you…you have anxiety sometimes’. I’m aware that some people’s anxiety is crippling to the point of not being able to get out of bed, or being sick…although sometimes I’ve felt that way, it’s not an every day [thing] for me.”

“But this is also not about comparison. This is just me wanting to share my story with you guys, in case it can in some way make one of you not feel alone.”

Katie continues in her message, “I know many people who suffer from anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder etc. and i’m proud to say that we support each other and find ways to get help (therapy, meditation, and self help books work for me).”

“Let’s stop putting such a stigma on mental health, and being ashamed, so that people who are suffering can feel confident and comfortable to say that they need help, and can seek help. All this to say…anxiety is normal. I live with it, try to love myself through it and am thankful to have love and support around me.”
