'The Vampire Diaries' Co-Creator Julie Plec Is Bringing 'Vampire Academy' TV Adaptation to Peacock!

Julie Plec is creating another vampire universe for us to obsess over!!

The Vampire Diaries co-creator is adapting the “Vampire Academy” books into a TV series for streaming service Peacock,” THR reveals.

Julie will serve as co-showrunner alongside her longtime collaborator Marguerite MacIntyre.

“When I signed my new deal with Universal Television, they asked what project I had always been dying to make and my immediate answer was Vampire Academy,” Julie said, via THR.

Vampire Academy is set in a world of privilege and glamour, and “follows two young women’s friendship that transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter royal vampire society. This serialized and sexy drama combines the elegance of aristocratic romance and the supernatural thrills of the vampire genre.”

Julie and Marguerite will adapt the books by Richelle Mead, executive produce and co-showrun the 10-episode series.

Julie Plec created one of the biggest fan-favorite universes with The Vampire Diaries and its spinoff series The Originals and Legacies, and we are excited to deliver this passionate audience a brand-new story on Peacock,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said. “Julie is known for binge-able, enthralling dramas and we know Vampire Academy will keep Peacock viewers right on the edge of their seats.”

Julie is of course most known for writing, directing, producing, creating (doing it all) The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies, as well as working on Roswell, New Mexico. Marguerite starred in The Vampire Diaries, Kyle XY, and more, and has also written and produced on The Originals and Legacies.

If you remember, the first “Vampire Academy” book was actually turned into a movie, starring Zoey Deutch, Dominic Sherwood and Lucy Fry, which was released in 2014.
