“They just sort of take me a minute,” she said about her albums. “I have to really think about where I’m at and where I’m headed, so, yeah, I’m in the studio for about two years and then when they’re done I pop my head back out.”
Lorde said that while making Solar Power, “I just found myself having a lot of very transformative experiences outside, and I’d come off a big period of working — being really busy and being outside. Being under the sun was really inspirational to me, so I started trying to channel it into the music.”
Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, performed the songs “Solar Power,” “California,” and “Fallen Fruit” from the new album. She also sang her previous hits “Green Light” and “Perfect Places.”
