Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Returns in First New Short in Over 94 Years - Watch Now!

Disney has unveiled a brand new short featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit!

In the self titled short, the character is back to help celebrate Disney 100 Years of Wonder, the company’s 100th anniversary celebration.

For those that don’t know, Oswald was created by Walt Disney in 1927, and is considered Walt‘s first breakout animated star, but he lost creative control of the cartoon character the next year. Walt then went on to creat another character similar to Oswald, who became the face of The Walt Disney Company – Mickey Mouse!

Disney regained control of Oswald in 2006 and this is the first new short for the character in nearly 95 years.

“On the eve of Disney’s 100th anniversary, it was such a joy to create the first new Oswald short from our studio since 1928,” producer Dorothy McKim said in a statement. “Our hand-drawn animation team—including our hand-drawn legends Mark Henn, Randy Haycock, and Eric Goldberg, as well our wonderful team of 2D apprentices—had a ball animating in the style of Oswald’s era.”

Director Eric Goldberg added, “Oswald is such a plucky scamp. We wanted to bring Oswald back, and in the short, he literally returns to his original home: the movie screen. We wanted to have Oswald do all of the ‘squash-and-stretch,’ ‘rubber hose’-animation style, celebrating that first generation of Walt Disney’s artists.”
