Hayley Kiyoko Tearfully Reacts to Tennessee Drag Ban Blocking Drag Queens From Joining Her on Stage

Hayley Kiyoko has had a roller coaster of a past couple of days.

The 32-year-old entertainer is currently touring North America on her Panorama Tour, and found herself in Nashville for a couple of days.

In a new post on Instagram, Hayley teared up while talking about how she wanted to bring drag queens on stage with her at her concert, but was informed by law enforcement that that could result in legal action.

After attending a drag show, the singer wanted to bring a couple of drag queens on stage, but since her show was considered all ages, that wasn’t legally possible, due to recent drag bans.

If you recall, Hayley has a love for drag, having appeared on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race (and winning!), and serving as a guest judge during season 15.

“Our day off in Nashville we went to a drag show at @playnashville and I had the honor of being brought on stage. We then planned to have some fabulous queens join us during my show the next day,” Hayley shared, along with videos. “At soundcheck the day of, I was advised by local law enforcement that having a drag performance at my all ages show could result in legal action. They warned us to not bring any drag performers on stage. I was shattered.”

While she didn’t want anything bad to happen to anyone, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she didn’t want to be silenced and wanted to support her community.

“How do we navigate these absurd threats and laws against our community? I find pride in making sure my concerts are safe places for ALL. How can I do that if we aren’t allowed to be ourselves, especially at a predominantly queer concert? We deserve to have a safe space to be ourselves while we navigate the evil that is threatening our own existence.”

When the drag queens arrived for her show, she told them they weren’t allowed to perform, however, they wanted to hit the stage anyway… and they did!

“Thank you @theladylibertea and @jivy85 for joining us last night. You looked radiant and truly inspire me,” Hayley added. “We will not be silenced. We will find ways to continue to be our authentic selves, no matter what. We will not give up. No matter how hard they make it. I love you all so much.”

The drag ban in Tennessee was actually temporarily halted at the end of March by a federal judge.
