'Doogie Kamealoha, MD' Canceled By Disney+ After 2 Seasons (Report)

We have some sad news to share about Doogie Kamealoha, MD!

It was just revealed that after two seasons on Disney+, the Peyton Elizabeth Lee-starring series has now been canceled, TV Line reports.

The show was a gender-swapped, modern remake of Neil Patrick Harris‘ Doogie Howser, MD, and took place in Hawaii.

As with most of the Disney+ cancelations, we don’t have any official word straight from Disney, but multiple sources did confirm the news to TV Line.

The cancelation may not come as a surprise as Disney+ dropped all episodes of the second season at once back in March, unlike the weekly rollout with season one. This has been done for several other shows in the past on the streamer, like season four of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (which was already announced to be ending) and Diary of a Future President.

Doogie Kamealoha, MD centered on Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha (Lee), a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. With the support of her caring and comical ‘ohana (family) and friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her teenage years and forge her own path.

Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her career-driven mother Dr. Clara Hannon who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, her doting father Benny who helps keep her connected to what matters most, her free-spirited older brother Kai, her gregarious younger brother Brian Patrick, her best friend Steph, her surfer crush Walter and her fellow hospital colleagues, Dr. Lee, Charles and Noelani.

Along with Peyton, the series starred Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jason Scott Lee, Mapuana Makia, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Matt Sato, Wes Tian, Emma Meisel, Ronny Chieng and Alex Aiono, with guest appearances from Milo Manheim, Margaret Cho, Randall Park, Alyson Hannigan and Max Greenfield.
