“We just have so much more to say in general — we’ve had more life experiences, we’re getting older,” she shared. “We’re just four girls with attitude, aren’t we? It just happened naturally.”

Leigh-Anne added, “With songs like ‘Joan of Arc,’ they needed that rap-y take on it. ‘Wasabi’ has that clap-back-to-the-haters vibe.”

Little Mix Have Split With Syco Records

Little Mix Have Split With Syco Records

It’s official – Little Mix have cut ties with Simon Cowell and Syco Records.

The Sun reports that the group had grown frustrated with their former mentor over what started as a simple writing credit and expanded to issues with their management company, Modest.

According to the paper, a strongly worded email was exchanged between the band – made up of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards – and Simon, who decided to cut all ties with the Modest’s artists, which also include One Direction and last year’s X Factor winners Rak-Su.

A spokesman confirmed to The Sun: “Syco Music will no longer work with Modest Management and therefore any artists signed to that management company. We do, of course, wish all artists affected by this decision every future success. Consequently, LM5, the forthcoming Little Mix album A&R’d and released on Syco Music, is to be serviced by RCA at the request of Syco and Simon Cowell.”

The break started over a writing credit, which Little Mix got, alongside Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne and songwriter Steve Mac.

“It was just embarrassing but, funnily enough, I was more annoyed, again, not about me, but about the fact people who had worked so hard in my company were being misrepresented,” Simon shared. “Why do artists think they’re more important than staff members? They’re not. They’re the same.”

He continued, “The irony was the record they were arguing about, which is ‘Woman Like Me’, they didn’t want to record. This was one of those ironic times that we were having a hit and nobody was happy.”

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock Says She Felt 'Overlooked' & 'Invisible' During First Years in the Band

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock Says She Felt 'Overlooked' & 'Invisible' During First Years in the Band

Leigh-Anne Pinnock is opening up about her first years as part of Little Mix, where she felt invisible compared to her bandmates.

The 27-year-old singer opened up in the new party issue of ASOS magazine about racism in the music industry.

“During the first couple of years of being in the band, I did feel invisible,” she admitted. “I remember crying to my manager regularly, I just couldn’t seem to find my place and didn’t know why.”

Leigh-Anne continues that she “didn’t feel like I had as many fans as the other girls. It was a strange feeling. I never thought that it was because I was the darkest member of the band. I felt overlooked. So I did everything to make myself more noticed, convinced I wasn’t good enough.”

After being advised that she had to work twice as hard because she was the only black girl in the band, Leigh-Anne reveals that it was others coming forward with their own experiences that she started to understand her feelings.

“Now I don’t feel alone because I’ve seen lots of women speak out about this,” she shared. “I know there are girls of colour out there who have felt the same as me.”

Leigh-Anne added, “We have a massive problem with racism which is built into our society. It’s scary. But the more people that speak out, the more change we can start to make.”
