Stelena fans, you may want to read this.
The Vampire Diaries executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson both confirmed that had Nina Dobrev not left the show in season six, Stefan and Elena probably would have found heir way back together romantically.
“I wanted to see if there was a way to bring Stefan and Elena back together one more time,” Julie told TheWrap.com. “But Nina left the show and that sealed Delena in for life.”
Kevin told Deadline, “I always thought it would be Stefan and Elena. They were sort of the anchor of the show, but because we lost Elena in Season 6, we couldn’t go back. You know Nina could only come back for one episode – maybe if she had came back for the whole season, we could even have warped back towards that, but you can’t just do it in 42 minutes.”
TELL JJJ: Do you wish you would have seen Stelena reunite?
In case you missed it, the Delena proposal was cut from the series finale.
While we were so satisfied with the end of The Vampire Diaries, a major moment had to be cut that we would have loved to see!
Executive producer Kevin Williamson just revealed that Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) proposal to Elena (Nina Dobrev) was left on the cutting room floor due to time constraints in the episode.
“We actually had a moment, which we didn’t have time for — everything got cut,” Kevin told TVGuide.com. “I think the first cut came in 18 minutes over. And there was a moment in the show where he proposed and she responded after medical school. And the whole point of that moment was just to show that she became a doctor. And so we thought, ‘Oh, we’ll just put her in scrubs and we can cut that piece.””
In case you missed it, Kevin also recently talked about why Stefan (Paul Wesley) had to die in the finale.
TELL JJJ: Would you have wanted to see the Delena proposal?
We weren’t the only ones tearing up during The Vampire Diaries series finale. So were the actors!
In fact, Nina Dobrev recently shared her thoughts about the emotional final hour.
“I am satisfied with the way the show ends — the fact that Elena finds peace and becomes human, which is what she always wanted,” Nina told EW.com.” She gets to be with the man that she loves [Ian Somerhalder's Damon], which is what she always wanted. She gets to say goodbye to her former love and now best friend. I cried during a lot of moments. I didn’t get the chance to be at the final read-through unfortunately but maybe that’s for the best because I would’ve been a mess.”
She added, “I cried during Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline’s (Candice King) final moments, because it broke my heart. I cried at the end when I read that Elena was writing in the diary again, when Elena basically says the same sentence that I did in the pilot eight years ago.”
In case you missed it, find out what Paul and Ian thought of the finale too!
Nina Dobrev has us welling up over these sweet throwback pics from her time on The Vampire Diaries over the past eight years.
The 28-year-old actress took to Instagram to write sweet messages about all of her co-stars and the creators of the show – Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson.
About Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, Nina wrote, “My undead brothers… I thought vampires weren’t supposed to age. Lol. We definitely don’t look the same after 8 years, but the make up helped. Raising a glass to celebrate 8 wonderful seasons together, it has been such a beautiful (and liver damaging) adventure knowing you all. Cheers family. #TVDForever”
